oh and the Presenters have NEVER met F2F
What is it?
Blackboard Collaborate 11(BC11) formerly ElluminateLive- web collaboration tool

How does it work?

Students meet virtually think of GoToMeeting but more classroom orientated Milner (and a few other depts.) use BC11 for some online courses Stef & Anita collaborate, before, during and after the semester to evaluate the technology, pedagogy and any challenges/successes Faculty are asked twice a semester for input and suggestions Why is it significant and unique? What makes this special is the collaboration and planning to better inform instruction & student training Teaching solo online is hard-having a Producer to bounce ideas off of as well as Tech Support gives Confidence to instructors.

What are the implications for T&L?

Realization that online teaching is a Collaborative process Trust in support staff and proper training of Instructors is critical Open communication is required to make the experience as good if not better than other options. IF we do this right, students learn, faculty learn and everyone wants MORE!!!!
st

Like a fine wine, using technology in the 21 Century takes time.

In this case, time and collaboration between tech support (producer) and faculty.

I have taken all but one class using Elluminate/Blackboard and I have had an excellent experience and education because of the social interaction and instant feedback. Thank you!!!

After 2 classes with this technology this semester, I was able to see all the benefits of each aspect of the technology. I was very impressed with the majority of it, I would take another class like these.

From 2011 Fall Elluminate Students (23) in School Library Program : Selected Additional Comments

I feel this is a great way to do a meaningful class on-line.
