Alliteration repetiton of consonant (what is a consonant?) sounds in the beginning of words Ex) Little Sammy Short sipped down six shakes and got sick. Repetition the use of any element of language (sounds, word, phrase, clause, or sentence more than once. (ex) Think of a song where there is repetition. Assonance the repetition of vowel sounds followed by different consonants (ex) BLADE and MAZE Consonance repetition of similar consonant sounds at the ends of accented syllables such as wind and sand.

Idioms
}Words, phrases or expressions that cannot be taken literally
} In other words, when used in everyday language, they have a meaning OTHER than the basic one you would find in the dictionary.
Examples
}Jose cant speak in front of people without getting butterflies in his stomach.
}Does he really have butterflies flying around in his stomach?
Both Richard and Donnie got jobs to bring home the bacon for their families.
Are Richard and Donnie really bringing bacon back home for their families to eat?
}It really gets under Ms. Hayes skin when students dont turn in complete assignments.
}Does something really crawl under Ms. Hayes skin when homework isnt turned in?
Elizabeth has a major test tomorrow in English, so she better hit the books hard tonight.
