Industry Overview Production wise India accounts 3.93% of total steel production globally. Indian steel industry is the worlds 8th largest steel industry. The steel industry is expected to achieve a steel production Capacity of nearly 124mt by year 2011-12. Steel sector is expected to generate additional employment of around 4 million by 2020.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is one of the largest state-owned steel makers in India. With a turnover of Rs 48,681 crore, the company is among the top five highest profit earning corporate of the country. It is a public sector undertaking which trades publicly in the market is wholly owned by Government of India and acts like an operating company. Incorporated on January 24, 1973, SAIL has more than 131,910 employees. The company's current chairman is C.S Verma.

(TISCO) is the iron and steel production company associated with the Tata group of some 80 different industrial and other business enterprises in India, founded by members of the Tata family. TISCO operates as India's largest integrated steel works in the private sector with a market share of nearly 13 percent and is the second largest steel company in the entire industry.

JSW Steel is India's third-largest steel producer. JSW Steel has formed a strategic tie-up with the world's sixth largest and Japan's second largest steel producer JFE Steel. Sajjan Jindal is an Indian businessman. He is the Vice Chairman, Managing Director of JSW Steel, a part of the JSW Group of companies.

The Essar Group is a multinational conglomerate corporation in the sectors of Steel, Energy, Power, Communications, Shipping Ports & Logistics as well as Construction headquartered at Mumbai , India. Essar Steel is a global steel company with strong presence in intensive steel consuming markets in Asia and North America. It is India's largest exporter of flat steel with 14 MTPA (million tons per annum) of capacity.
