SYED FAZEEL

Generally arrive late and passengers finding inconvenience Normally use single track system while double track system is limited Railway organization is over staffed, which is a financial burden and effects position of railways. Corruption and misutilisation of funds have also affected the development projects. The wages paid to workers are low. Majority of workers form hand to mouth. Inadequate facilities have been provided to passengers. there is a shortage of funds to increase the number of locomotives, to start development projects and to provide facilities to the passengers. Railway is suffering huge losses for maintaining un-remunerative lines. Losses on railways operation need to be minimized by closing un-remunerative lines where strategic and other consideration do not warrant such services and where there is no potential for improvement and fare rationalization. Railways are operating at low rates. A flexible policy for rates and fare requires to be adopted whereby freight rates could be varied according to the type of commodities as well as direction. The operational efficiency of the railways is very low. The bulk of railways earnings are drawn from freight services which are not being accorded the priority they deserve. Pakistan Railways still suffers from a mixture of gauges

Management problem

Passenger get very tied due to uncomfortable seats It consume more time of their customers. . There is no cleanliness with the rush of people. There is no proper check of tickets in Trains. Train gets too much stops during the Journey. The staff of Pakistan Railway is In-efficient thats they give the tickets of same seat to The 2 customers. Its Shipment facility is not so good. Lack of focusing on the Pakistan Railway The expenditure of Pakistan Railway is very high as compare to revenue Other problems faced by Pakistan railways:
Shortage of advanced locomotives, Railroad cars, Mismanagement, Single railway track Lack of technique-oriented staff, including railway minister.

Productivity of Pakistan railway:

Strategy:

Lack of flexibility Pakistan has already completed prefeasibility study for establishing a rail link with China Pakistan Railways has signed contract with Chinese supplier for the maintenance of Chinese locomotives to improve reliability and availability of locomotive. Pakistan Railway is encouraging private sector to bring rolling stock for running of passenger and freight trains by paying track access charges. Rehabilitation of 400 old coaches is underway with 80 coaches expected to be rehabilitated during the current financial year. Another ongoing development project is the doubling of tracks from Khanewal Raiwind (246 km Doubling of track will be completed from Chichawatni to Okara stations during the period under review. Other on-going projects 1) Rehabilitation of 101 DE Locos. 2) Procurement of 69 DE Locos. 3) Procurement/manufacture of 175 passenger coaches. 4) Procurement of 1300 high capacity wagons. 5) Islamkot/Mirpur Khas/Thar rail link line. 6) Rehabilitation of 450 passenger coaches. 7) Doubling of track between Lodhran and Raiwind.

Models for Railway strategy

Information Technology Department:

The following locations have been inducted to the computerized network:1) Peshawar 2) Lahore Cantt 3) Quetta 4) Hyderabad 5) Faisalabad Other important projects which have taken in hand for computerization:1) Freight management system 2) Asset management system 3) Personnel system 4) Legal system 5) Track management system 6) Financial system for public relation department 7) Electric billing system 8) Timetable system
