Export is one of the most lucrative business activities in India. The Govt.

also provides various incentives to the exporters for earnings valuable foreign exchange for the country for meeting their requirements for importing modern techno. and essential inputs. Besides the income from export business is fully exempt under the Income Tax Act,1961.Refund of central Excise and Custom Duty on export is also made under the Duty Drawback scheme of the govt.Drawback payment procedures have been simplified. Duty free import of raw materials is allowed under various schemes of Ministry of Commerce.

Replenishments licenses are also available against export of certain specific items. Forex regulations have been substantially liberalized for exporters. Liberal release of forex is made available for travel abroad. Export Credit and Guarantee corporation is overhauling its international operations. Transports subsidy is given for export by air as well by rails. Domestic Cos. have been allowed to bid in any currency. Delhi customs have introduced EDI system of computerized processing of import and export transactions.

Export documents have to be prepared for various purpose viz. 1. Declaration of exports as per exchange control regulations of the country. 2. Transportation of the goods. 3. Custom clearance of the goods. 4. Other documents.

Documents for Transportation of Goods


A. Airway Bill/Consignment Note:
The airway bill consist of 3 originals and 6-11 copies. It is non negotiable document. Original1 (green) copy is retain by the carrier issuing the airway bill for accounting purpose. Original 2nd pink copy is accompanied the consignment to the final destination. Original 3rd blue copy id given to shipper as proof of the receipt of the goods for shipment.

1) The bill of Lading


The bill of lading is issued in the standardized document format. Shipping co. which will calculate the freight amt of the basis measurement or weight as certified by the recognize chamber of commerce on payment of the freight. The shipping returns the bill of lading duly signed and supported by 25p adhesive stamp

2 or 3 originals. All originals are duly signed by the master of the ship or the agent. All the originals are equally valid for taking the delivery of the goods. 1 original is utilized the other originals become null or void. No original copy goes in the wrong hand. Few extra copy of B/L are generally marked as non negotiable copy which cannot be utilized for taking the delivery of the goods.

2) Mate Receipt

It is issued by the chief of vessel after cargo is loaded. It contains name of shipper, place of receipt,voyayge no. , port of loading port of discharge, place of delivery, marks and nos. , container no. , description of good, gross weight. The receipt is of transferable nature It must be presented at the shipping company's office to be exchanged into B/L.

3) Combined Transport Document


Inland container depots have been setup at various centers in the country. These ports are known as dry ports and have made it possible to cover the entire movement of goods from ICD to destination.
