OBJECTIVES
Understand the nature and process of leadership from an Islamic perspective. Appreciate the characteristics of leadership in general, and of Islamic leaders in particular. Analyze your leadership and followership styles. Learn how you can mobilize, organize and develop your followers Islamically. Learn how you, as a leader, can build commitment by acting as a coach and mentor. Learn how to delegate effectively.

PREAMBLE
The

concept of leadership is one of the most discussed issues in the world today. On the internet today, the word is used more than 10 million times. More importantly every organization, setting, institution, desires good leadership. The key to success in an endeavor is the ability to lead others successfully. Leadership is not an exclusive club for those who were born with it.

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP ?
Leadership is the ability to see beyond assumed boundaries, and to come up with solutions or paths that few can visualize. ( Kuram Murad) The leader must then project this vision for everyone to see and pursue.

Leadership is the process of moving people in a planned direction by motivating them to action through a non-compulsive mean ( Hisham Altalib) Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent.

Autocratic:
Leader makes decisions without reference to anyone else High degree of dependency on the leader Can create de-motivation and alienation of staff May be valuable in some types of business where decisions need to be made quickly and decisively

Democratic: Encourages decision making from different perspectives leadership may be emphasised throughout the organisation
Consultative: process of consultation before decisions are taken Persuasive: Leader takes decision and seeks to persuade others that the decision is correct

Select the right task to delegate. Determine what needs to be done and break it up to manageable tasks. Select the right person who could do it. Delegate for specific results. Prepare goals and delegate authority. Define the procedure. Allow the person to perform. Take control. Be constantly in touch. Retain control monitoring progress. Set system of check points.

Another critical success factor for effective leadership is TEAM WORK. You will meet and work with different people with different background, interest and sentiment. . Working as a team can be challenging but there is no better result without team work. While you can loose with a team, it is very certain that you can never win without a team.
