WEATHER
It is the state of the atmosphere at a given moment. It depends on:

Clouds: cloudy or clear. Wind: calm or windy


Gale: very strong wind. Breeze: not so strong wind.

Humidity: dry or humid. Temperature: cold, hot, mild or cool. Precipitation: rain, snow or hail.

CLOUDS The day can be:


CLOUDY: There are clouds. CLEAR: There arent clouds.

WIND The day can be:


WINDY: The wind blows. CALM: The wind doesnt blow.

Types of wind:
Gale: It is a very strong Breeze: It is a not so wind. strong wind.

HUMIDITY The day can be:

It can fall as

METEOROLOGISTS
They are the people who predict the weather by measuring and studying the atmosphere. They receive information from: - Artificial satellites in space. - Instruments in a meteorological station.

WIND GAUGE
It measures how fast the wind blows.

WEATHER VANE
It shows the direction the wind blows.

RAIN GAUGE
It is a container which measures how much rain has fallen.

THERMOMETER
It measures the temperature of the air.

CLIMATE
It is the combination of the different types of weather in a region during the year. Climates in Spain:
Subtropical. Atlantic. Continental. Mediterranean. Mountain.

SUBTROPICAL CLIMATE
In regions closer to the equator (Canary Islands). Small differences between seasons. The temperature is high during all the year. There is not much rain.

ATLANTIC CLIMATE
In the coastal regions in the north of Spain, next to the Atlantic Ocean.

The temperature is mild all the year.


There is a lot of rain.

CONTINENTAL CLIMATE
In the interior regions of Spain. The temperature is very hot in summer and very cold in winter. There is not much rain. It falls in spring and autumn.

MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE
In the regions close to the Mediterranean Sea.

The temperature is very hot in summer and autumn, and mild in winter and spring. The rain can be heavy in autumn. In the other seasons it rains very little.

MOUNTAIN CLIMATE
In regions more than 1.500 metres above the sea level.

The temperature is very cold in winter and cool in summer. There is a lot of rain. In winter it falls as snow.
