On March 17, 1977 J.D. Edwards was formed, by Jack Thompson, Dan Gregery & Ed-Mc Vaney. In early years J.D. Edwards designed software for small & medium sized computers. In 1980s it focused on IBM system/38. As the company began to out grow, its headquarter in Denver, opened branch offices in Dallas & Newport Beach, California, Houston, San Francisco & Bakenfield. And then internationally expanded its Europe headquarters in Brussels & Belgium. As it grew it became obvious that servicing a large number of customers was creating a challenge By the mid of 1980s, J.D Edwards was being recognizes as an Industry-leading supplier of application software for the highly successful IBM AS/400 computer. Today J.D Edwards is a publicly traded company that has more than 4700 customers with sites in over 100 countries & more than 4200 employees.

Three roles in JD Edwards ERP

JD Edwards comprises three basic areas of expertise

1. Functional Business Analyst

-an expert on one or more of the JDE modules, financials, manufacturing, operations, transportation, sales and other areas

2. Developer/Programmer
-translate the business requirements as identified by the functional people above into code and programming

3. Technical
-cover including, installation, upgrades, updates, change management, system administration, security etc

JD Edwards is a leading provider of integrated software for distribution, human resource, finance, manufacturing & SCM. These software's are operated in multiple computing environments & also JAVA & HTML enabled.

CURRENT SOFTWARE
Oracle's JD Edwards products are currently known as JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and JD Edwards World. Oracle announced that JD Edwards support would continue indefinitely. Support for the older releases such as the Xe product were to expire by 2013, spurring the acceptance of upgrades to newer application releases. The latest offering of EnterpriseOne is application version 9.0 Update 2 on Tools Release 8.98 Update 4, and World with A9.2. Shortly after Oracle's acquisition of Peoplesoft and JD Edwards in 2005, Oracle announced the development of a new product called Oracle Fusion Applications. Fusion was designed to co-exist or replace JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and World, as well as Oracle eBusiness Applications Suite and other products acquired by Oracle, and was finally released in September 2010.
