PRESENTED BY: SAPNA (118) VAISHALI PUJARA (120)

What is Research?
Research is defined as a highly intellectual human activity used in the investigation of nature & matter and deals specially with the manner in which data is collected & analyzed and interpreted.

Definition of Research...
1. is being undertaken within a framework of a set of philosophies ( approaches) 2. uses procedures, methods and techniques that have been tested for their validity and reliability 3. is designed to be unbiased and objective .

Characteristics of Research
Controlled Rigorous Systematic Valid and verifiable Empirical

TYPES OF RESEARCH

Types of research

Descriptive vs. analytical

Applied vs. fundamental

Quantitative vs. Qualitative

Conceptual vs. Empirical

Some Other types

Descriptive Research....
Descriptive research, also known as Statistical research....... collects data in order to answer questions about the current status of the subject or topic of study uses formal instruments to study preferences, attitudes, practices, concerns, or interests of a sample

Analytical Research.
Paul Lazarsfeld is known as an author and a great promoter of analytical research. Analytical research concerns with causeeffect relationships among variables. The researcher attempts to analyze the situation and make critical evaluation Researcher has to use facts or information already available

Applied Research....
Applied research is designed to solve practical problems of the modern world, rather than to acquire knowledge for knowledge's sake. One might say that the goal of the applied scientist is to improve the human condition...

Fundamental Research.
Also called Pure research, basic research carried out to increase understanding of fundamental principles generates new ideas, principles and theories, which may not be immediately utilize essential for nourishing the expansion of knowledge

Approach :
Knowledge for knowledge sake Done out of mere curiosity An intellectual exploration An attempt to arrive at new discovery An improvement over an existing theory

Quantitative Research.....
analysis of numerical data
Quantitative research based on traditional scientific methods, which generates numerical data and usually seeks to establish causal relationships between two or more variables, using statistical methods to test the strength and significance of the relationships.

Qualitative Research.
Also called cognitive testing or pilot testing aim to gather an in-depth understanding of human behavior and the reasons that govern such behavior The qualitative method investigates the why and how of decision making, not just what, where, when.

Conceptual Research.....
Conceptual research is that related to some abstract idea(s) or theory. It is generally used by philosophers and thinkers to develop new concepts or to reinterpret existing ones.

Empirical Research.
Also called experimental research is a way of gaining knowledge by means of direct and indirect observation or experience Empirical evidence can be analyzed quantitatively or qualitatively.
