The Cloud BY: Percy Shelley

I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers From the seas and the streams; I bear light shade for the leaves when laid In their noonday dreams. From my wings are shaken the dews that waken The sweet buds every one, When rocked to rest on their mother's breast, As she dances about the sun. I wield the flail of the lashing hail, And whiten the green plains under, And then again I dissolve it in rain, And laugh as I pass in thunder. I sift the snow on the mountains below, And their great pines groan aghast; And all the night 'tis my pillow white, While I sleep in the arms of the blast. Sublime on the towers of my skiey bowers, Lightning, my pilot, sits; In a cavern under is fettered the thunder, It struggles and howls at fits; Over earth and ocean, with gentle motion, This pilot is guiding me, Lured by the love of the genii that move In the depths of the purple sea; Over the rills, and the crags, and the hills, Over the lakes and the plains, Wherever he dream, under mountain or stream, The Spirit he loves remains; And I all the while bask in Heaven's blue smile, Whilst he is dissolving in rains.

Creating an effect on literature

Although internal rhymes usually occur within the same line, like in the Shelleys poem The Cloud, some great poets like to break the rules! They do this to create an even better effect..

The Raven BY: Edgar Allen Poe

`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; This it is, and nothing more,'

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten ore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there ame a tapping, s of some one gently rapping, rapping at my hamber door. Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my hamber door Only this, and nothing more.'

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, `Sir,' said I, `or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore; But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping, And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at h, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak my chamber door, ecember, That I scarce was sure I heard you' - here I nd each separate dying ember wrought its ghost opened wide the door; pon the floor. agerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to Darkness there, and nothing more. orrow rom my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, ost Lenore Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever or the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels dared to dream before; amed Lenore But the silence was unbroken, and the ameless here for evermore. darkness gave no token, nd the 3/25/12 uncertain rustling of each purple And the only word there spoken was the silken sad whispered word, `Lenore!' urtain

The Raven BY: Edgar Allen Poe

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only, That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour. Nothing further then he uttered - not a feather then he fluttered Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.' Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'
