SEVEN (7) HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

HABIT 1 BE PROACTIVE
This habit is also called Habit of Choice. It also mean, how to behave to things that happen to us. Proactive means taking initiative, to act and not be acted upon. By being proactive, it enable us to choose our response to particular circumstances. We are value driven. Some example of proactive languages are: 1.lets look at our alternatives 2.I can choose a different approach 3.I can create an effective presentation

Proactive people focus their efforts in the circle of influence. Work on the things they can do something about. Proactive peoples energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying causing the circle of influence to increase. Circle of influence is filled with bes I can be more patient, be wise, be loving. Its character is focus.

HABIT 2 Begin with the end in mind


This is based on the principle that all things are created twice. Theres mental or first creation and physical or second creation to all things.Its also based on personal leadership which is the first creation and management which is the second creation. Meaning for habit 2 , leadership has to come first. The most effective way to begin with the end in mind is to develop a personal mission statement or philosophy or creed. It focuses on what you want to be (character) and to do (contributions and achievements) and on the values or principles upon which being and doing are based. Examples of personal mission -

1. Hear both sides before judging 2. Defend those who are absent 3. Maintain a positive attitude 4. Keep a sense of humor 5. Do not fear mistakes fear only the absence of creative, constructive and corrective responses to those mistakes. 6. Facilitate the success of subordinates 7. Listen twice as much as you speak. 8. Be sincere yet decisive 9. Remember the people involved 10. Plan tomorrows work today.

Whatever is at the center of our life will be the source of four factors1. Security which represents our sense of worth, identity, emotional anchorage, self-esteem, basic personal strength 2. Guidance- source of direction in life, standards or principles that govern moment by moment our decision making and doing. 3. Wisdom-perspective in life, sense of balance, understanding of flow the various parts and principles apply and relate to each other. It embraces judgement, discernment, comprehension. 4.Power capacity to act, the strength to accomplish something. The energy to make choices and decisions. When these four factors are present together, harmonized and enlivened by each other, they create the great force of a noble personality, a balanced character, a beautifully integrated individual.

HABIT 3 Put First Things First


Habit 3 is a habit of integrity and execution. Put important things first. Things that are important and urgent Comes first (ex. Deadline reports and important but not urgent comes second (ex. Planning, annual P.E.) Quote by Johann Goethe Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.

HABIT 4 THINK WIN - WIN


This habit is of mutual benefit. We find solution that works for both of us. We search solutions that will make each happy and simultaneously satisfy others. Think win-win in situations of conflict, in long term relationship, in interdependent situations and supplier-customer relationship. Quote from Bernard Baruch- You dont have to blow out the other persons light to let your own shine.

HABIT 5 Seek First to Understand, then to be understood


This habit is mutual understanding. Inorder to communicate effectively we must understand first each other. We must listen empathically Meaning reflecting what a person feels and says in your own words. We must also listen with virtuous heart. The key to being understood is to understand the needs, concerns and priorities of the other person first.

HABIT 6 - SYNERGIZE
This is a habit of creative cooperation. Synergizing is a process of interacting That highly effective people used. It is result-oriented, positive energy, win-win cooperation, having a mutually agreed-upon end mind and discipline process. It is also a creative process that explores new possibilities to benefit all parties involved.

HABIT 7 SHARPEN THE SAW


This a habit of renewal meaning more capable. To maintain and increase effectiveness, We must renew ourselves in body (physical), heart (emotional), mind ( mental ) and soul ( spiritual/values). This habit is a continuous improvement.( training ). We must nurture the goose that lays the golden eggs.
