Industry Introduction

Karnataka co-operative milk producers federation limited (KMF) is the apex body in Karnataka representing dairy farmers co-operative it is the third largest dairy co-operative amongst the dairy co-operative in the country. In South India it stands first in terms of procurement as well as sales. One of the core functions of the Federation is marketing of milk product. The brand NANDINI is the household name for pure and fresh milk and milk products. KMF has 13 milk unions throughout the state which procure milk from primary dairy co-operative societies (DCS) and distribute mil to the consumers in various town/rural markets in Karnataka.

National dairy Development Board(NDDB)


History: The NDDB was founded to replace exploitation with modernity, stagnation with growth, transforming dairy into and instrument for the development of Indias rural people. The NDDB was established in 1965, the board is registered under the Societies Registration Act, fulfilling the desire of the prime minister of India the late Lal Bahadhur Shastri to extend the success of the kaira co-operative milk producer union(AMUL) TO OTHER PARTS OF INDIA Dr. Verghese Kurien was the founder chairman. The success combined the wisdom and energy of farmers with professional management to successful capture liquid milk and milk product markets supporting farmers investment with inputs and sevices.

Company Profile
KMF, DHARWAD Introduction: DMU has the privilege of being a leader in milk and milk products as it is committed to serve the society as a whole. DMU is committed to play a key role in the enlistment of the rural population by providing them necessary infrastructure facilities like assistance in breeding etc, and producing milk from the farmers, there by building their economic strength. The production capacity of DMU is 2 lakh liters of milk per day also has the capacity to produce 13 tons and 6 tones of ghee per day. DMU comprises of 4 districts- Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and North Canara.

It has got 8 chilling plant spread over the above mentioned 4 districts, packing and production plants is in Dharwad. The turnover is on an average 40 crore per year. The charted accountant will take internal audit in the routine course, in addition to this statutory audit is also made. The financial year is from April March every year before 30th of September annual board meeting will be held.

Historical Background rd Year of establishment- 3 march 1986, Constitution established under co-operative art with the equity participation of government of Karnataka and share holders. Area of operation- Gadag, Hubli, Dharwad, Haveri, Uttar Karnataka, Kumta, Ron, Nargund, Mundgad, Sirsi.

DHARWAD MILK UNION Dharwad milk union (DMU) came into existence on 3/3/1986 DMU was establish under co-operative act on 3/3/1986 at Dharwad and Gadag, Haveri, Uttar Karnataka and dharwad come under its operation Establishment The dharwad milk union is co-operative society among the 13 establishment . under KMF.The dharwad milk union is on the most modern plants in the country . It is located in patterned the AMUL milk dairy. Anand, Gujarat

Functions of DMU: The main function of DMU is to procure milk from villagers and pay them the right price. To educate the villagers about milk and its quality. To make nandini as a part of dairy life. To provide good quitly of cattle feed, fodder. Veterinary property and in an efficient manner. To see that the milk is brought from DCSs to the chilling centers in the prescribed time. To look the account of the DCSs supervised the purchase process and market the milk and milk product.

Objectives of DMU

Providing hygienic and good quality of milk to the consumers. To build the economic strength of the milk products in the villagers. To eliminate middle Mens in the business so that tha milk products receive there appropriate share of bread. To educate the villages about the adulteration of milk and its harm ful effect on the body. To see that every citizen becomes healthy by consuming good quality cf milk.

Process at DMU The milk collected at DCSs is brought to the center though carriers trucks etc. The quality and quantity of milk bought is checked at the reception center by a supervisor. a sample of milk is taken and is tested in a laboratory for content. The main objective of this department is to follow up production schedules as per plan and to maintain close and co-ordinate with other departments and ensures to upgrade the technical efficiency of production. Milk,as it is highly perishable product has to be processed immediately to avoid spoilage with respect to its flavor, texture and taste.

In DMU at every stage care is taken to ensure that the customer gets the product, which as a very high quality, hence there is a separate department called quality department. Where the quality testing is done like Temperature, clot on boiling, acidity test, alcohol test, lactometer, fat test.
