A cell is like a

Football stadium!
Done by: Shin Min (30) Felix (35)

Nucleus is like the coaching staff

Nucleus regulates all cell activity Similarity: Coaching staff tells the players to do things. Difference: Coaching staff only tells the players what to do, not the entire stadium.

Nucleolus is like the manager

Nucleolus contains all the DNA in the cell. It synthesizes ribosomes.

Brain of the cell Similarity: Manager is at the center of everything. He controls what has to be done. Difference: The manager does not synthesize ribosomes

Nuclear membrane is like the office door of the staff

Controls what enters and leaves the nucleus Similarity: Stops trespassers from entering the office Difference: Nuclear membrane is double layered, like the cell membrane whilst the door is single layered

Mitochondria are like the food vendors in the stadium

Produces ATP, which is harnessed for energy in the cell Similarity: Produces food which people in the stadium can consume Difference: ATP is harnessed for cell movement, mitosis and active transport, whilst this energy is harnessed for eating.

Cell wall is like the walls of the stadium

Fully permeable. It gives a cell its shape and protects it from bursting. Similarity: The walls give the stadium its shape and protects it from harm. Difference: The walls are not fully permeable as people cannot walk through walls.

Cell membrane is like the ticket gates

Selectively permeable, it allows certain particles to enter and exit the cell. Similarity: The ticket gates keeps out those without tickets while letting in those with tickets. Whats more, via VIP entrances/protein gates, they can let certain particles in faster. Difference: The cell membrane keeps out particles that are too large, not those without tickets.

Cytoplasm
All cell activity happens in it. Cytosol place where all organelles reside, contains proteins. It is the air in the stadium, which keeps the people alive. However, instead of proteins, it contains oxygen. Cytoskeleton maintains cell shape and helps cell locomotion. It is the inner pillars within the stadium that help keep it up. However, the stadium does not move. ---Microtubules make up the cytoskeleton. They are the walkways and aisles which help people find their way around easily. However, these do not help support the stadium.

Chloroplasts are the players

Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll which turns light energy into chemical potential energy. Similarity: The players (wearing a green kit) generate money for the stadium by playing Difference: Instead of converting light energy into chemical potential energy, they convert chemical potential energy into money.

Vacuoles are like the portable toilets

Stores nutrients and waste products. Expels them out of the cell. Temporary Similarity: They store waste products to be expelled out of the stadium and are temporary. Difference: They do not store nutrients

Ribosomes are like the fans

They aid in the synthesizing of proteins which is necessary for the cell Similarity: They generate money for the stadium. The money is like the proteins, necessary for upkeep of the cell. Difference: The fans are not kept within the cell. They do not stay in the stadium

Endoplasmic reticulum are like the stadium seats

Synthesizes proteins and lipids, and transports them around the cell. Ribosomes can be found on the surface of rough endoplasmic reticulum. Similarity: Fans can be found sitting on the surface. Difference: The seats do not transport the money around the cell.

It modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum for storage in the cell or secretion outside the cell. Similarity: They sort out and count the days revenue, and then separates it for the days wages, and transfers the rest to the bank Difference: No difference, actually

Golgi apparatus is like the financial department
