What is HDMI??
HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) is
a standard for audio/video transmission between a source and sink over a single cable.
HDMI support, on a single cable, any TV video
HDMI is provided for transmitting digital television audiovisual signals from DVD-players, set-top boxes and other audiovisual sources to television sets, projectors and other video displays.
The interface of the next generation.

TVs, DVD players, Blu-ray players, PCs Cell phones (soon)
Panasonic, Sony, Philips, Thompson, & Silicon Image in April 2002. The goal was to create an AV connector which is backward compatible with the DVI. Different versions HDMI have been introduced, from HDMI 1.0 to 1.3a , same cable is being used but different throughput.
Versions
HDMI 1.0: December 2002 Single cable digital audio/video connection, maximum bandwidth of 4.9 Gbps. HDMI 1.1: May 2004
With added support for DVD.
HDMI 1.2 : August 2005 Added support for the audio channels up to 8 channels.

HDCP
High bandwidth Digital Content Protection : an
authentication / encryption scheme used by HDMI/DVI. HDCP is a specification developed by Intel Corporation to protect digital entertainment content across the DVI/HDMI interface. The HDCP specification provides a robust, costeffective and transparent method for transmitting and receiving digital entertainment content to DVI/HDMI-compliant digital displays. Implementation of HDCP requires a license from Intel.
HDMI Signaling
HDMI uses
encoding the signal to protect it from degrading as the signal travels from
The sending device such as an HD-DVD player encodes the signal to reduce the no. of transition between 0s and 1s.
The
step of encoding step helps protect the signal quality by reducing the no. of chance for the signal to degrade.
One of the cables in twisted pair of cable carries the signal itself and the other carries the inverse of that.

the differential between the signal and its inverse and compensates for any losses.
HDMI Connectors..
In the HDMI connector the pins are divided as
follows:
Three audio and video channels travels through two pins
each, for the total of six pins. TMDS clock travels through a pair of pins used to synchronize the incoming data.

Why HDTV?
Higher resolution Picture Wider picture Real cinema experience RS232 connectivity
HDTV
HDTVs are the digital ones. HDTVs have an aspect ratio of 16:9 so gives a
large & rectangle picture. Higher resolution 1920*1080 pixels using deep color. Signals can be progressive, faster refresh rates.
appear bands or contours. Increases the contrast ratios for the sharper images & greater detail. More accurate represents original material. -Deeper color palette produces
video more like original film -Live events look more natural
Simplified example of tonal transitions with limited color palette
RS232 Connectivity
effective way of interfacing the Network family of LCD TV Panels to an automation system controller NEC Full HD LCD Televisions are suitable for - Home Automation - Display Signage applications
HDMI Advantages
HDMI PROVIDES:
Simplicity Performance Intelligence
Simplicity
Transmission of all types of Audio-Video data
on a single link. Ultra easy to install or upgrade. Simple to hook-up other devices to your HD System HDMI is Backward compatible with the previous versions of HDMI.
Performance
No conversion or compression required. Enormous Bandwidth Capacity gives: Better looking movies Faster Gaming Richer Audio Ready for future emerging technologies Higher resolutions, like 1440p or Quad HD Faster refresh rates, like 120Hz Deep Color, taking the HDTV palette from millions to trillions of colors
Intelligence
