QUEUEING MODEL

REETU ASTHANA

SYMBOLS OF QUEUEING MODEL

N= number of customer in the system = mean arrival rate / time period = mean service rate P = probability Lq = length of queue Wq = waiting time in queue Ls = length of system Ws = waiting time in system

Traffic intensity = /

Probability of service probability is ideal po = 1 - / Probability of n customer in the system Pn = po ( / )^n

Probability of non empty queue : P= ( / )^2

For QUEUE : Length of queue: Lq = ( / - ) * ( / ) Waiting time in queue: Wq = ( I / - ) * ( / )

For SYSTEM : Length of system: Ls = ( / - ) Waiting time in system: Ws = ( I / - )

Arrival rate of telephone caller at telephone booth is 10 min, and the length of telephone calls is assumed to 3 minutes. So from the above information calculated : a) Determine the probability that a person arriving at booth will have to wait. b) Probability of model is idle c) Average time when the booth is free in a day of 10 hours.

e) the number of expected customer waiting for the service at telephone booth.
f)

How much time the customer is expected to spend in the queue. How much time of caller will be consumed at telephone booth.

g)

h) Probability of waiting time of customer in a queue shall be more than 10 minutes.

Arrival rate = 60/10 = 6 per hour Service rate = 60/3 = 20 per hour a) Traffic intensity = / = 6 / 20= 0.3 or 30% of time b) Probability of service booth is in ideal state po = 1 - / = 1 0.3 = 0.7 or 70% of time c) Average probability of booth is free in a day of 10 hr

) Average length of queue in system Lq = ( / - ) =( 6 / 20 6) = 0.43 customer

e) No. of expected customer waiting for the service Lq = ( / - ) * ( / ) = 0.43 * 0.3 = 0.13 customer f) Time spend by customer in a queue Wq = ( I / - ) * ( / ) = ( 1/14) * 0.3 = 0.02 hr or 1.2 min

g) Time of customer consumed in the system Ws = ( I / - ) = (1/ 20 6) = 1 / 14 = 0.071 hr or = 4.28 min. h) p(waiting time in queue) = e ^ ( -t / Ws * / ) = e ^ (-10 / 4.28 * 6 / 20 ) = e ^ ( - 2.34 * 0.3) =e^(

Conclusion: It is found that the booth remain ideal for around 70% of time meaning if booth run for 10 hr a day it is found to be ideal for around 7 hrs and it is having busy server for around 30% of time (phone busy for 0.3) The important factor is that customer have to wait in queue for about 1.2 min and around 4.28 min in the system to access the service.
