European union
European union is a type of economic union and political union of 27 European countries they are integrated for free exchange of goods and services with in the union countries.

EVOLUTION OF EU
After world war 2 European countries want to economical and political stability in Europe. The idea of European union was proposed by French foreign minister Robert Schumann (1950) In the initial stage OEEC was established , six countries are integrated their economic (West Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherland and Luxembourg) The European coal and steel Community (ECSC) and the European Economic Community (EEC), formed by six countries . The European Union was formally established when the Maastricht Treaty came into force on 1 November 1993 .

Structure of EU
Presently the EU includes 497 million people and has 23 official language . EU Headquarters :- Brussels, Belgium major institution of the European union :1)European parliament (elected by the people of the member states) 2)Council of the European union (representing the governments of the member states) 3)Presidency (rotates every six months among member country) 4)European commission(driving force and executives body) 5)Court of justice (ensuring compliance with the law) ANANT KUMAR JHA 4 6) Court of auditors( controlling and managing the EU

OBJECTIVES OF EU
Promoting economic and social progress, achieving

the single market and single currency. Affirmation of European identity on the international humanitarian aid for countries, foreign policy and security policy, involvement in resolving international crises. The introduction of European citizenship: complements national citizenship and provides a European citizen certain civil and political rights. To develop an area of freedom, security and justice: the free movement of persons. The existence and consolidation in the law: all the legal texts adopted by the European institutions together with the founding treaties.

Economy of the European Union of the EU has an agreed budget of 141 billion The operation
for the year 2011, and 862 billion for the period 20072013, this represents around 1% of the EU's GDP. (According to IMF) The Risk Capital Facility is a 100 million Commissionfunded programme which aims at providing high-risk equity and quasi-equity funding to Small and Medium Enterprises which creating jobs, Increased numbers of new jobs particular women, they targeting 13,000 jobs by 2012 (at least 30% of these jobs should be for women);

The EU member countries have transferred some

of their law-making authority to the EU in certain policy areas, such as agriculture and fisheries. In other areas, such as culture, policy-making is shared between the EU and national governments

EU policy aims to enable producers of all forms of

food whether cereals, meat, dairy, fruit, vegetables or wine to: produce sufficient quantities of safe, high-quality food for European consumers make a full contribution to diversified economic development in rural areas meet very high standards of environmental care and animal welfare.

The EU has some of the world's highest

environmental standards, developed over decades. Its main priorities today are: protecting endangered species and habitats and using natural resources more efficiently goals that also help the economy by fostering innovation and enterprise

Responsibility for policy in the field of

employment, social affairs and inclusion is shared between the EU and its member countries. The EU: coordinates and monitors national policies promotes the sharing of best practices in fields like employment, poverty and social exclusion and pensions makes laws and monitors their implementation in areas like rights at work and coordination of social security schemes ANANT KUMAR JHA

Economic and Monetary Affairs


Stability and growth Within a single market and major trading bloc like the EU, it makes good sense to coordinate national economic policies. This enables the EU to act rapidly when faced with challenges such as the current economic and financial crisis. The benefits of the euro Having the euro as a common currency for a large part of Europe has made it easier for the EU to react to the global credit crunch in a coordinated way and provided more stability than would otherwise have been possible. Climate action

Protecting the planet One goal, lots of actions! EU leaders have agreed a set of targets, to be met by 2020, that have come to be known as the "20-20-20 targets". These aim to: Reduce EU greenhouse gas emissions to at least 20% below 1990 levels Increase to 20% the proportion of EU energy consumption coming from renewable sources Reduce the amount of primary energy used through energy efficiency - by 20% compared with projected levels.

Aside from the 23 official EU languages, many

regional and minority languages are spoken in Europe. The EU strives to protect this linguistic diversity and promote the learning of languages.
