What is cloud computing ?

Delivery of computing as a service rather than a product. End users access cloud based applications through a web

browser. The business software and data are stored on servers at a remote location. Cloud application providers strive to give the same or better service and performance than if the software programs were installed locally on end-user computers.

History
The underlying concept of cloud computing dates back to

the 1960s, when John McCarthy opined that "computation may someday be organized as a public utility.
The term cloud computing.

Service Models
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
It is a model in which an organization outsources the equipment used to support operations, including storage, hardware, servers and networking components.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

It is a model that provide a computing platform and a solution stack as a service.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

It is a software delivery model in which software and its associated data are hosted centrally

Cloud computing layers.

Deployment Models
Public cloud
Applications, storage, and other resources are made available to the general public by a service provider.

Private cloud
Private cloud is infrastructure operated solely for a single organization.

Community cloud
Shares infrastructure between several organizations from a specific community with common concerns like: security, compliance, jurisdiction, etc.

Hybrid cloud
Composition of two or more clouds (private, community or public) , offering the benefits of multiple deployment models.

Characteristics/advantages
Virtualization
Scalability Performance Cost Maintenance

Issues/disadvantage
Privacy.
Compliance. Down time. Sensitive data. Data dependency.

Impact of cloud computing.

The tremendous impact of cloud computing on business

has prompted the United States federal government to look to the cloud as a means to reorganize its IT infrastructure and to decrease its IT budgets. With the advent of the top government officially mandating cloud adoption, many government agencies already have at least one or more cloud systems online. Also the US army is partly dependent on cloud computing for its functioning in computational area. So slowly but surely the computation is moving to cloud.

Conclusion
Cloud computing changes the way we think about

technology. Cloud is a computing model providing webbased software, middleware and computing resources on demand. Cloud computing is the next phase in the evolution of computing. Cloud computing will change the way of our computing in coming future.
