Bill of Lading - A document of title to the goods being carried on the ship, which acts as a receipt for the cargo and contains the terms of the contract of carriage. Master Bill of Lading - A document, issued by a shipping line to a shipper / forwarder which serves as a receipt for the goods and evidence of the contract carriage. House Bill of Lading - A document, issued by a forwarder to the actual shipper which serves as a receipt for the goods and evidence of the contract carriage.
