WHAT IS WASTE?
Waste includes all items that people no longer have any use for, which they either intend to get rid of or have already discarded. Additionally, wastes are such items which people are require to discard, for example by lay because of their hazardous properties. Many items can be considered as waste e.g., household rubbish, sewage sludge, wastes from manufacturing activities, packaging items, discarded cars, old televisions, garden waste, old paint containers etc. Thus all our daily activities can give rise to a large variety of different wastes arising from different sources.
India is the second most populous country, which has about 16% of the world population and 25% of the land area. Rapid industrialization last few decades led to depletion of pollution of precious natural. Rapid industrial developments also led to the generation of huge quantities of hazardous wastes, which aggravated the environmental problems in the country by depleting and polluting natural resources. Rational and sustainable utilization of natural resources and its protection from toxic releases is vital for sustainable socioeconomic development. Hazardous waste management is a new concept for most of the Asian countries including India. The lack of technical and financial resources and the regulatory control for the management of hazardous wastes in the past had led to the unscientific disposal of hazardous wastes in India, which posed serious risks to human, animal and plant life.
What is Recycling ?
The practice of collecting the waste materials into the new useable products. This process prevents the waste of useful materials. Recycling is the process of re using the given products and producing the new products from. It means that it is the process where old goods are re manufactured and transformed into the new usable products Recycling is the process that involves the techniques for creating new materials with the help of wastes and used stuff .the main reason for the recycling is to potentially decrease the inhabitants and environmental pollution.
Newspaper recycling
Newspaper recycling involves the recycling of newspaper to create the new newspapers and paper products. The main thing kept in mind while newspaper recycling is that newspaper does not contain any other material such as paint over it and rubber bands rapped around
There are seven types of plastic resin: 1. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), 2. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), 3. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), 4. Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), 5. Polystyrene (PS) 6. and Other (usually a composite of several previously mentioned)
Uses for Recycled Water agriculture landscape public parks golf course irrigation cooling water for power plants and oil refineries processing water for mills, plants toilet flushing dust control, construction activities concrete mixing artificial lakes
Advantages of recycling
a. Recycling minimizes the use of glass. b. Helps in increasing the production of plastic and paper. c. Removes pollution in the form of garbage recycling. d. Creates awareness in the people for saving their environment. e. It minimizes the use of natural resources. f. Avoid pollutants from interfering the natural processes
Disadvantages of Recycling
Separate factories must be set up for the recycling of materials (pollution, energy consumption) Some recycling is not cost-efficient and annually results in a net loss in the process of recycling papers and plastics, harsh chemicals are used that can cause health problems on exposure
