Trainer
Trainee A trainee must learn first to be quiet, then to be alone, then to face and examine himself, then to recognize and speak truth, and finally be with others, unaffected by circumstance or surrounding, of single mind.
--Jason Dougherty
The trainee must have the following characters: 1. Desire. Trainees must have an insatiable desire to improve. They should be self-motivated and take action in the absence of specific direction. Their burning desire enables them to take the full dose of the training.
2. Willingness to Listen. Great trainees understand the necessity of listening. They are teachable, open and willing to accept guidance and correction. Intelligent discussions pertinent to the situation ensue, which strengthen the bonds of trust and confidence.
3. Dedication to Fundamentals. Exceptional trainees embrace fundamentals. They build on an already solid foundation, performing common movements uncommonly well (virtuosity.) Great trainees improve with regular, deliberate practice. Pre-workout time is maximized and used as an opportunity to sharpen basic skills.
4. Mental and Physical Preparedness. World-class trainees are prepared at every session. They understand that early is on-time. They are enthusiastic about the opportunity at hand, regardless of how they feel. They recognize rest and nutrition not as distractions, but rather complementary building blocks of elite human performance.
5. Ability to Train Alone. While a group dynamic offers encouragement and mutual accountability, there are times when a trainee must work alone. Military deployments, austere environments, unpredictable schedules and road trips present training disruptions.
Excuses aside, a world-class trainee will find a way to face rigorous protocols alone and unafraid.
-----The seeds of world-class performance are often born in the silence and solitude of the morning darkness.
6. Behavior under pressure. World-class trainees are able to deal with injury and the mental anguish of rehabilitation. They may get temporarily discouraged, but are able to bounce back quickly and with even greater resolve.
They understand that pain and injury are part of the contract. World-class trainees reveal their true character in times of discomfort and adversity. Great trainees perform well by themselves and in group or team settings.
The Trainer
Characteristics of Effective Trainers Trainings and seminars could be successful only if handled by effective trainers. They have the ability to persuade and instill core values, vision-mission and even the right attitude to the trainees. 1. Have goals and objectives. Initially, as a trainer, you should indicate each goals and objectives clearly. This allows each trainee to know what he is expected of after the training. As the trainer, this will help you to make all your materials in line to what is needed by the company. Remember that most companies have this kind of trainings to freshen and incorporate their visions and missions to their employees.
2. Do your research. Effective trainers take time to actually research and know their topics before the training. You should master everything beforehand and try to deliver the message in a convincing manner. This will make you more credible and would put weight on each word you will say during the training. 3. Deliver the message. Have all your materials prepared and organized. Be clear with your words as you speak to your trainees. Make sure that the quality of your voice is loud and the tone is not that intimidating. Welcome your trainees and make sure that you grab their attention from the get go.
4. Incorporate interaction. The discussion should not be one-sided, as this will bore the trainees. Encourage active participation among the group and have actual demonstrations whether by partner or by group. Understand that it is essential to develop group dynamics in your interactions.
You are there to facilitate everyone to be active and share his thoughts about the activity. Give ample time for each activity and identify what key elements they should have learned during the activity. Recap the activity by including your audiences ideas and responses to your prepared materials for the evaluation of the activity.
5. Indicate positive reinforcements. Maintain a positive atmosphere during the discussion. This will allow trainees to share their point of view among the group.
Do not be shy to give credit to trainees who excel during the training. Instead of rejecting a trainees answer, try to improve it by giving examples to support his statements or redirecting it to more positive one.
5. Encourage feedbacks and follow ups. Respect all responses in the course of the training. Try to give constructive criticism in a very encouraging way. Never wrong a trainee right then and there. The group may have the tendency to keep their ideas to their own and miss out to share it during the activity.
Address all concerns of your trainees such as further questions and inquiries about the training. Answering each trainees question gives the impression that you are sincere and fair to everyone.
You can also gauge their level of understating and evaluate them accordingly.
