Aim of the Project

This report will define the ergonomic role in everyday context by showing the contribution towards profitability of the company, employees health and safety in the workplace and tangible or intangible Adequate posture, work height, normal and maximum working areas are determined for the intended user population. A case problem (Final Inspection workstation) is discussed to illustrate the workstation design procedure.

WORKSTATION
A workstation is the place a worker occupies when performing a job. The workstation may be occupied all the time or it may be one of several places where work is done. Some examples of workstations are work stands or work tables for machine operation, assembly or inspection etc. A well designed workstation is important for preventing diseases related to poor working conditions, as well as for ensuring that work is productive. Every workstation should be designed with both the worker and the task in mind so that work can be performed comfortably, smoothly and efficiently.

PROBLEMS IN WORKSTATION
The main causes of problems in workstation are: poorly designed seating; standing for long periods; reaching too far; inadequate lighting forcing the worker to get too close to the work. uncomfortable work posture can cause a variety of problems, such as: back injury; Inadequate lighting forcing the worker to get too close to the work. circulatory problems in the legs.

BASIC ERGONOMICS PRIENCLE FOR WORKSTATION DESIGN

An ergonomic approach for the design of workstations is the attempt to achieve an appropriate balance between the workers capabilities and workers requirements as well as provide the worker with physical and mental well-being, job satisfaction and safety . A general rule of thumb is to consider body size information, such as height, when choosing and adjusting workstations. All workstations must be adjusted so that the worker is comfortable and the space in workstation must be utilized properly.

Physiology Assessment As Well As Cognitive Of Workers

Main human body parts to perform a task at this workstation are hand. Example of the critical tasks are handling air gun to loose and tighten a bolt, fix a work piece at jig, fix a wire cable, spark plug cap and air hose. The other human body parts which are important in this work station such as eyes for viewing the condition of equipment fixing and to make a conclusion of their own tasks based on standard given. The other task which highly related to human body parts at the workstation is noise level judgment using normal hearing process.

Questionnaire survey
Questionnaire survey on the workers by through interview session.

It is used to identify a level of body discomfort area and sources of injury or uncomfortable feelings.

Direct observation
Direct observation is performed by "walk through" inspection using digital camera to evaluate and identify ergonomic risk factor based on work activity that has ergonomic stressors present at the workplace.
