The summer of 1992 was very dry leaving the cliff cracked The coastline is eroded by the sea. The cliff is made up of layers of boulder clay and sands & gravels Boulder Clay is impermeable (it doesnt let water flow through it) Sands & Gravels hold water creating a wet layer between the boulder clay The 1992 1993 winter is very wet.

The wet sand & gravel layers slips down causing the cliff to collapse Rain seeps into the cracks in the cliff increasing the weight of the steep cliff. Erosion undercuts the base of the cliff 5/13/12 making steep slopes.
