History
In 1970, Qaboos bin Said overthrew his father to takeover Oman

as the Sultan.
The Sultan asked USA. UK and Pakistan to help him in

overthrowing his father.

In 1980 the U.S. obtained the use of ports and airfields in Oman

in exchange for economic and military aid.

The country opened its bases to international coalition forces

against Iraq in the 1991 Persian Gulf War and to U.S. forces mounting strikes against Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden in 2001.

Physical Features
A vast desert plain

covers most of Oman. There are mountains along the north (Jebal Akhdar) and southeast coast. That is where the country's main cities are also located. The climate is usually hot and dry in the center of Oman. It is also humid along the coast.

Food
Omani cuisine revolves around rice. Morning meal often consisting of bread or leftovers

from the day before, and tea.

Large dish of rice with a thin sauce often based on

tomato or tomato paste and meat or fish.

Evening meal is generally very light, sometimes

consisting only of fruit or bread and tea. Strong Influence of Indian cooking.

rack rates has rated 3 Gulf cities in Muscat, Doha and Dubai having the most expensive hotel rack rates in the World.
