In the 18th century


Thekerosene lampor widely known in Britain as aparaffin lamp, were used. At first Ignacy Lukasiewicz invented the first modern kerosene lamp to illuminate emergency surgical operation in local hospital. Kerosene lamps may be used on a table, or hand-held lanterns may used for portable lighting.

Joseph Swan, who was a British physicist and chemist, developed a method of processing that avoided the early bulb blackening. His house was the first in the world to be lit by a light bulb.

Thomas Edison did not invent the first electric light bulb, but he invented the first commercially practical incandescent light. Edison and his team discovered acarbonized bamboofilament that could last over 1,200hours. On 17th December, 1880, he became the founder of Edison Illuminating Company. Edward E. Hammer develops the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)while working under Richard Thayer. Hammer's CFL worked at curbing reflective losses by spacing his spiral design in a certain way.
