Pasolink Network Management System

NEC Pasolink Network Management System (PNMS) provides an easy-to-use monitor, control, configuration and management platform for NECs Pasolink and Pasolink+ radio networks. You can us the PNMS to do the

following:
Monitor Pasolink/Pasolink+ radio equipment status Control and Configure Pasolink/Pasolink+ radio equipment Collect Link Performance data Build or create Pasolink/Pasolink+ radio network

PNMS uses SNMP model to manage Pasolink/Pasolink+ radio networks.

The SNMP manager in the system is the PNMS workstation fitted with HP-OpenView NNM and PNMS application software. It executes management operations which control and monitor the agent systems. The SNMP agents in the PNMS are Control module(CTRL) in Pasolink+ case, fitted in each Pasolink+ IDU. The CTRLs contain application software that is capable of network management operations requested by the PNMS. There are different types of CTRL configuration according to its role in the Pasolink radio network.

(SNMP Agents) Pasolink NE Types: There are 3 types of Pasolink NE according the the role in the PNMS network:

1. CPMC Central PMC - configured to communicate directly to the PNMS WS and to poll the subordinate SCPMC and RPMC connected in its chain or cluster. This is in addition to monitoring the radio parameters of the NE. (Equivalent of a Gateway NE (GNE)) 2. SCPMC Sub-Central PMC configured to poll downstream NEs (SCPMC or RPM) and respond to poll from an upstream CPMC or SCPMC. This is in addition to monitoring the radio parameters of the NE. 3. RPMC Remote PMC responds to poll from upstream CPMC or SCPMC and monitor the radio parameter of the NE.

(SNMP Agents) Pasolink+ NE Types:

There are 3 types of Pasolink+ NE according the the role in the PNMS network: 1. Root-NE equivalent to CPMC, configured to communicate directly to the PNMS WS and to poll the subordinate SCPMC and RPMC connected in its chain or cluster. This is in addition to monitoring the radio parameters of the NE. (Equivalent of a Gateway NE (GNE)).

2. Branch-NE equivalent to SCPMC, configured to poll downstream NEs (SCPMC or RPM) and respond to poll from an upstream Root-NE or Branch-NE. In some cases, the Branch-NE maybe be located on the same subnet and polling an unnumbered branch/multidrop.
3. NE equivalent to RPM, responds to poll from upstream Root-NE or Branch-NE and monitor the radio parameter of the NE.

PNMS COMMUNICATION INTERFACE (PASO+ STM-1)

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE PNMS AND THE RADIO NETWORK EQUIPMENT CAN BE :

VIA THE NMS PORT OF THE LOCAL PASOLINK EQUIPMENT TO THE PM CTRL MODULE
VIA THE DIGITAL SERVICE CHANNEL (DSC) TO A REMOTE PASOLINK EQUIPMENT NMS PORTS ARE LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE EQUIPMENT AND CONSISTS OF RJ-45 CONNECTORS. NMS PORT CONNECT THE THE IDU VIA A LAN OR SERIAL CABLE TO THE RELEVANT PORT OF THE PNMS COMPUTER OR THE IP NETWORK.

PROPERTIES OF THE NMS PORT ARE AS FOLLOWS:

PNMS (V-11) PORT FUNCTIONAL ELECTRICAL COMMUNICATION RATE MECHANICAL RS-422 V-11 9.6/ 19.2 KBPS (ASYNC) RJ-45 PNMS (LAN) PORT INTERFACE CONNECTOR ETHERNET 10 Base-T (RJ 45)

PNMS GUI:
The PNMS has four(4) map levels:
1. 2. 3. 4. Root-level map Region-level map Control-level map Radio(NE)-level map

1. Root-Level Map

Pasolink Radio Network contains the Regional-level map of the PASOLINK network

2. Region-Level Map

Region -contains the PASOLINK clusters contained in one region. Each region is defined in one network configuration data (NCT).

3. Control-Level Map

Control -contains the NE(s) controlled by one CPMC/Root-NE. The RootNE/CPMC is the gateway network element that facilitates communication between the PNMS and the NE(s)

4. Radio(NE)-Level Map

The PNMS administration involves:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Automatic Date/Time Setting Link Performance Data collection time Severity Setting Backup/Restore Viewing Action Log

PNMS Administration:
1. Automatic Date/Time Setting:
# cd /opt/PNMS/conf # vi manage_config.conf #Set NE Date Time #Please do not specify the following time # XX:00, XX:15, XX:30, XX:45 NEDateTime=00:35 NOTE: The default data collection time is set at 00:35 daily. The format for this variable is HH:MM, where HH is the hour represented in 24-hour format. And MM the minute when the PNMS will synchronize the date/time on the PMCs.

PNMS Administration:
2. Link Performance Data collection time:
# cd /opt/PNMS/conf # vi collect_config.conf #Time to collect Pfm. Data NextCollectTime=0105

NOTE: The default data collection time is set at 01:05 daily. The format for this variable is HHMM, where HH is the hour represented in 24-hour format. And MM the minute when the data collection will start.

PNMS Administration: 3. Severity Setting:

NOTE: To activate the changes, you need to restart the system by performing the following commands: (Note: Please do not change the default setting when using MS3201.)

#/opt/OV/bin/ovstop #/opt/OV/bin/ovstart
