efforts to promote, impede, or direct social, political, economic, or environmental change. What else can I do to get started?

1. Read, listen to, and watch alternative Independent news, like the local news features here and Democracy Now! (which comes on at 5pm on 89.3 WRFG, and is online at democracynow.org). The corporate mainstream news is inaccurate (read Manufacturing
Consent by Noam Chomsky and Ed Herman for why U.S. mainstream media is not trustworthy)

4. Start with direct action/service if youd like to move beyond self-education. You can spend a Sunday with Food Not Bombs, starting at 11am to cook, 2pm to feed people, and then help wash dishes (28). Contact KCCA to offer childcare (71), or one of the urban farms to help grow food (starting at 29). 5. Attend different events and actions to support a group that appeals to you. Consider joining that group. It doesnt take very much to be a supporter, and perhaps not much to join a group, either. Many groups post their events on the calendar at atlanta.indymedia.org (55). 6. Help outreach to other potential activists! Often, people just need to be invited and connected in 7878 to start. Email order

2. Browse the websites of the organizations featured here, or speak directly to representatives by phone or in person, to learn about their analysis of the problems, vision for the future, and strategies for getting there. 7/11/12 3. Think about how you see
