Bound as one, to love, honor, or burn. Book one of a stunning fantasy duology, this tale of witchcraft and forbidden love is perfect for fans of Kendare Blake and Sara Holland. Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned. As a huntsman of the Church, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. But when Lou pulls a wicked stunt, the two are forced into an impossible situation — marriage. Lou, unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, must make a choice. And love makes fools of us all. Set in a world of powerful women, dark magic, and off-the-charts romance, book one of this stunning fantasy duology will leave listeners burning for more.

Autor

Shelby Mahurin

Shelby Mahurin is the New York Times bestselling author of the Serpent & Dove trilogy. She grew up on a small farm in rural Indiana, where sticks became wands and cows became dragons. Her rampant imagination didn’t fade with age, so she continues to play make-believe every day—with words now instead of cows. When not writing, Shelby watches The Office and reads voraciously. She still lives near that childhood farm with her very tall husband and semiferal children. Visit her online at www.shelbymahurin.com.

Very busy book ! Gave resolve to many if not all problems. Bittersweet and somewhat predictable. Once again Beau was my favorite! Ending was fitting but left me wishing for more. Very action packed like the books that came before , would have loved more slow moments !

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I’m really surprised it has a low rating on goodreads!! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Blood & Honey is a great sequel for Serpent & Dove. The characters that we love from the first book are developing even more in this one, and we get a lot of new information that will leave us hanging and ready for book three.
Here, the relationship between Lou and Reid, even though is still adorable, is more real and complex. If you are married, you know marriage is not always simple, you have to learn about dealing with each other’s demons while you love in an unconditional way, add to that the fact that you are running away and that you are a witch and you will understand Lou and Reid during the book.
I loved every single character for the group (Coco, Ansel and Beau), and I feel La Voisin is going to be the biggest villain of the next book.

I’ve read this twice now (when it came out, and as a reread before Blood & Honey) and I just... I liked it even less than the first time? I just can’t stand the characters now. The story is interesting enough, but the historical setting and modern way of speaking is just so jarring and the character development seems very sudden. Idk.. maybe it will get better with book 2.

The story gets a 4.5-5 star rating but the narration gets a 3-4 star rating.

The story was a good continuation of the first book and the progression and challenges of relationships. More characters are involved, as well as world building. However, another pointless shock value thing happens at the end. I’m rather tired of these things happening for shock-value’s sake than actually doing something for the plot (and if you argue with me that it in fact does help progress the plot, no, there was no need for it.)

As for the narrations for both voice actors, there were times I couldn’t stand the voices they used for some characters. They were awful. There was even mumbling involved for a certain character and I’m still wondering whose bright idea that was to keep it or even have it as a thing in the first place (I could not understand what was being said).

I don’t know, I just don’t know. I had to finish the series because the plot just keeps extending itself sometimes aimlessly other times for actual significance. Wildly long and I bore at the melodramatics. I also never truly felt comfortable about Reed and Lou’s relationship… no matter how many times the author shoves their “fierce and unexpected” love in your face. The Stockholm syndrome just isn’t cute. I could do without the sex scenes too. Anyways, A for imagination and world-building, C+ for plot threads, D for drama and inner monologues. Wasn’t a huge fan of the voice acting…
Perhaps this reads better on paper!
