Over 200 000 children benefit from the various residential, educational and developmental programmes operating in 133 countries.
In Kenya, the first SOS Children’s Village in Kenya was opened in 1973. Additional SOS Children’s Villages were subsequently built in Mombasa (1979) and Eldoret (1990) and Meru (2005) and the latest village in Kisumu (2012). Additionally, SOS Children’s Villages Kenya runs Kindergartens, Primary Schools, a Secondary School, Medical Centres, a Vocational Training Centre as well as Community Development Programmes in different locations across the country.
SOS Children’s Villages Kenya also cares and supports children who have lost, or who are at risk of losing the care of their biological family. Under the Family Strengthening Programme we aim to prevent children from losing the care of their family. We strengthen families’ ability to protect and care for their children, and strengthen safety nets for vulnerable children and their families within the community. Both in our villages and community programmes, we currently take care of over 10,000 children.weniger sehen
