He worked as a hard-rock miner, a deckhand on ocean going freighters, a beekeeper, a tree planter, a trail builder, a charter-boat captain, and a stone artist. He founded Stone Arts of Alaska in 1999, a small business “dedicated to the beauty of stone.”
