2.1 Design Conditions
Design conditions shall not subject the piping system to a stress at
the most. severe coincident internal or external pressure and
temperature expected during service than ANSI B31.3 permits for the
naterial used ¢o fabricate the systen.
A) Design Pressure
The design pressure of a piping systen shall not be less than
the pressure at the most severe condition of cainetdent internal
or external pressure and temperature expected during service
‘kcepe as noted below.” The most severe condition is that which
results in the greatest required component thickness and the
highest component rating.GENERAL SPECIFICATION

8) Design Temperature
‘The design metal tenperature shall be considered to be the
asimum temperature of the floring fluid. For uninsulated lines
Operating above, 38°C (100°F) see ANSI 831.3 section 301.3.2 for
Sitemnate calculation method.
) Special Design Conditions
Special design conditions may be used to establish the basis for
piring design instead of the normal, continuous fluid flow
Eemperature and pressure.
1) The design setal temperature is calculated from the maxinum
operating temperature in accordance with section 301.3 of
Nst B31.
2) Occastonal yarfations of both pressure and temerature
above normal operating levels are characteristic of most
Services. The most severe conditions of coincident pressure
and temperature shall de Utilized for the design conditions:
Unless all of the following criteria are met.
4) The piping system shall have no pressure containing
Components of cast iran or other non-ductile metal.
b) Nominal pressure stresses shall not exceed the yield
strength at temperature.
€) Combined longitudinal stresses shal? not exceed the
Sinits established in Section 3023.6 of ANSI B31.
4) The number of cycles (or variations) shall not exceed
7000 airing the Tite of the piping systen.
fe) In no case shall the increased pressure exceed the
system (hydro) test pressure.
1) Occasstonal variations above design conditions shal
Pesain within one of the folloving Visits for pressure
design:
(2) When the yartatfon lasts no sore than 10 hours at
‘ny one tine and no sore than 100 hours per year,
it ts permissible to exceed the pressure rating orGENERAL SPECIFICATION

than 33%. (Short Tine Variation)
(2) When the variation lasts no more than 60 hours at
any one tine and not more than 500 hours per year,
Ie 5 permissible to exceed the pressure rating of
the allonable stress for pressure design at the
increased condition by not more than 20%.

External Pressure
ANT system operating below atmospheric pressure shall be designed
for fall vacuum.
