Release Notes for PSS/ADEPT 5.

0
Removed Functionality
The ability to export PSS/U raw data files has been removed in PSS/ADEPT-5.0. This is due primarily to
the changes to the transformer and machine modeling.
The machine dictionary has been removed in PSS/ADEPT-5.0. We have added several new synchronous
machine types with supplied industry defaults for round rotor small/large, salient pole with/without damper
windings, combustion turbine. When a data file is imported into PSS/ADEPT-5.0, the machine data in the
raw data file will be preserved, however, machine impedances will be set to a small steam turbine. You
can use the Default Item capabilities to reset the default machine type.

Known Issues
The method that PSS/ADEPT uses to copy graphical data to the clipboard allows subsequent changes to
be included in the pasted data. For example, if you copy data to the clipboard, then make a change to the
portion of the diagram that you copied and then paste the data to another application, your changes will
appear in the pasted data. The work around for this is simply to perform the paste before making any
further changes to the diagram.
If you bring up the protection pack property sheet and change the name, leave the cursor in the name
field, and then attempt to add some devices by dragging, the devices are apparently not added. Move the
cursor to another location on the window before attempting to add devices using the dragging method.

Enhancements
Network Item Properties
Sources:
Additional fields added for:

Grounding impedance.
Source base kVA rating used to determine source impedance in ohms.

Units of scheduled voltage changed from kV to per-unit (pu). The proper conversion is applied to convert
kV to per-unit voltage when importing previous revisions of PSS/ADEPT (.adp) and PSS/E raw data (.raw)
files.
Capacitors:
Both balanced and unbalanced capacitor banks are allowed. For balanced capacitor banks, the total kvar
is entered and applied evenly to all three phases. For unbalanced capacitors, the capacitor kvar may be
specified at each phase.
Support has been added for ungrounded wye connected capacitor banks.

Synchronous machines:
Added support for:

Constant power, swing, and voltage controlled machine types.

Wye and delta connections.

Expanded support for machine impedance values with supplied industry defaults for round rotor
small/large, salient pole, with/without damper windings, and combustion turbine.
Transformers:
Several new transformer types have been added:

Z-Wye (+/- 30) and Z-Wye (+/- 150)

Wye-wye + 180
Auto wye
Wye-wye with phase shift (tap control at both FROM and TO sides)

Added ability to specify FROM and TO voltage if different from nominal base voltage of the transformers
connected nodes (e.g., a 13.8 kV transformer being used on a 13.2 kV system).
Added ability to specify grounding impedance associated with a particular transformer. The grounding
impedance will be automatically calculated from the value of zero-sequence impedance as specified in
previous revisions of PSS/ADEPT (.adp) and raw data (.raw) files.
Ability to directly calculate line drop compensation for wye and delta connected auto regulators.
Calculation of line drop compensation can be obtained for other wye-connected transformers by using a
wye connected auto regulator to calculate the desired impedance and then changing the type to reflect
the proper transformer representation.

Performance
Significantly improved wait times for reading in large case files (e.g., > 2000) nodes.

Protection and Coordination

Added the following relays:

ABB DPU 2000, DPU 2000R, IMPRS

Schweitzer - 267, 387, 501

Expanded analysis capabilities allowing the display of:

Motor starting curves.

Fuse I2T curves.

Analysis Options
Added the capability to color-code and flag overloaded branches on a specified percentage of the actual
rating value (e.g., 125% of rating).
Added an additional method of determining voltage unbalances based on the percent difference between
individual phase voltages and average phase voltage.

Added harmonic tabular reports.

Grid View
Items not editable will appear disabled (grayed out) in the grid editor.

Diagram Options
Added ability to display and set colors for P(kW) and Q(kvar) power flows

Program Settings
Added ability to toggle knee points on/off during data import.

Reports
Upgrade to Crystal Reports 9.0 offering the latest report technologies from Crystal Decisions. New export
formats are:

Fixed Defects

Following a TOPO analysis, only the closed switches were indicated on the diagram.

In files saved with versions prior to 4.0, the node name position for point nodes was set to the 1st
quadrant (upper right) when imported. For these earlier versions, the node name will now be placed
in the 4th quadrant (lower right) upon import.

Automatic load scaling of balanced load produces incorrect results.

The automatic load scaling analysis will produce the correct scale factor for balanced load. However,
when updating the actual load values on the load property sheet an incorrect value is used. This
value is 1/3 of what it should be and causes the results of a load flow at the target branch to be
incorrectly calculated. Additionally, the actual load values (kW, kvar) will not be displayed correctly on
the property sheet.

Protection equipment pack node location is incorrectly displayed when the node name where the
protection pack is located has been modified.

Switching between induction machine locked rotor codes produces incorrect locked rotor
impedances. The incorrect efficiency and power factor were used to determine the locked rotor
impedance of the induction machine.

Transformer kVA listed on the transformer damage property sheet is specified as three-phase kVA
rating. Transformer kVA on the transformer property sheet is specified in kVA/phase. The kVA/phase
value was reflected on the transformer damage curve property sheet for the three-phase kVA rating.
The program will now operate as follows: If the transformer is a three-phase transformer, the kVA
rating displayed on the transformer damage property sheet will be three times the value specified for
kVA/phase on the transformer property sheet. If the transformer is single-phase or two-phase, the
value on the transformer damage curve property sheet will be equal to that specified for the
kVA/phase on the transformer property sheet.

Added uncategorized loads to the network summary report.

Under certain conditions, out-of-service branches tabular report could miss some out-of-service
equipment.

If a switched capacitors status is out of service, its in-service kvar is not set equal to zero.
PSS/ADEPT will now check the status of a switched capacitor and if it is out of service, the actual (inservice) kvar will be set equal to zero.

Export list of tabular reports does not show all of the valid exports (Word, Excel, etc.) At PSS/ADEPT5.0 we have upgraded to Crystal Reports 9, which allows for the previous output export formats plus
some new additional output formats.

Removed the zero-sequence impedances (R0, X0) fields from the transformer damage curve
property sheet. The zero-sequence impedance is not used to determine the transformer damage
curve.

Taking an induction machine "out of service" using the check box on the induction machine properties
window does not remove the machine from the model.

Whenever the damage curve for a transformer is plotted, it is always plotted three times farther to the
right on the current axis than it should be according to the transformer curve equations. This problem
was caused by an in-correct kVA value between the transformer property sheet and the transformer
damage curve property sheet.

Select by island does not recognize open switch branches.
