    6-218 Porsche Engines 928 v8 ENGINE CODING ENGINE IDENTIFICATION Engine code and identification number is stamped on the front reinforcing rib in the top half of the crankcase Engine Ident Application 928 (4474 cc) ENGINE & CYLINDER HEADS ENGINE Removal — 1) With car standing on oll 4 wheels, loosen engine comporiment cross braces. Disconnect battery ground cable at spore wheel well. Detach windshield washer hoses fond engine comportment light wires. Remove engine hood. Remove cop from coolant expansion tank. Remove air intake hoses ond entire air cleaner assembly, 2) Roise cor on hoist at specified pick up points. Place wooden block between central tube and rear tunnel brace, Detach splash shield at bottom and drain radiator. Remove left ond Fight water drain plugs from crankcase. Drain engine cil ond remove lower body brace, Disconnect exhoust pipes ot manifolds and remove lelt and right heot shields. Detoch ‘ground cable af body. Install and tighten drain plugs 3) Unscrew clutch slave eylinder at clutch housing ond remove with line connected. Remove mounting strap for pressure line to slave cylinder. Disconnect wires at starter and remove clutch housing with starter, 4) Disconnect clutch lever by pressing down in direction of clutch, Release starter wire from clamps on steering cross mem: bbor. Remove socket head bolts and push drive shaft coupling back on drive shaft. Unscrew throwout bearing sleeve ‘mounting belts and push sleeve toward flywheel 5) Detach left and right engine shock absorbers at control ‘rms, then ot upper mountings, Disconnect air conditioner tem- perature switch wires on radiator and compressor
