important sentence structure rules.
---
For Nebensätze (subordinate clauses) the main rule is that the conjugated verb is always at the end.
For Ja-/Nein-Fragen (yes/no questions) it is important to place the Verb at the very beginning of the
question.
For w-Fragen (open questions) it is important to place the question word in the first position, followed by the
conjugated verb.

Below you'll find sentences in indirect speech. Choose the correct Konjunktiv I (subjunctive I) form in the
third person singular from the given options. Click on "Read More" to review this topic.
Der Konjunktiv I wäre "sei'. Unten in der Tabelle
findet ihr ein paar Beispiele.
---
The Konjunktiv I (subjunctive I) is a special verb form that is used in indirect speech.
Indirect speech shows to the reader/listener that you are talking about something that another person said.
The Konjunktiv I is used when what is said is in the present tense. Here is an example:
Direct speech: Er hat mir gesagt: "Ich gehe heute ins Kino." (He told me: "I'm going to the cinema
today.")
Indirect speech: Er hat mir gesagt, dass er heute ins Kino gehe. (He told me that he was going to the
cinema today.)
Indirect speech with the Konjunktiv I occurs mostly in formal written language (e. g. in newspapers) but not
in everyday spoken language. The Konjunktiv I is mostly used with the third person singular
(er/sie/es/man) and sounds outdated when used with other persons.
Building a Konjunktiv I form in the third person singular is easy. Just take the verb stem and add an "-e" to
it. Sein (to be) is an exception. The Konjunktiv I would be sei. Here are a few examples:
