What is your rationale for applying to this course, and why do you think you are a

suitable candidate for a place on the course?

I strongly believe that University of Nottingham is the best university for me. As
stated clearly in the website, MA TESOL program is totally an outstanding program
by providing opportunities for the students to explore more and more their skills to be
a professional researcher and teacher in the field of TESOL.

The MA TESOL program are completely relevant to my educational and professional

background. I did my bachelor`s degree in the field of English education in 2010.
Moreover, I have been teaching English since 2008 both schools and universities.
This shows my strong commitment in the area of English teaching studies.

What elements of the course are you drawn to, what made you choose this particular
programme?

I am personally keen on the core courses offered in the website, namely

1) Language Teaching: Methodology and Curriculum; and 2) Understanding
Language Learning and the Language Learner. Both courses are my interests. More
specifically, I have always been very interested in the area of English Language
Teaching Curriculum. In addition, I also have published some articles in International
journal by addressing both of the areas.

What previous experience, either practical or academic, do you have that is relevant
to the programme you are applying to?

I started teaching English at junior schools when I was the fifth semester student in
undergraduate degree in 2008. Then, I have been teaching English at university as
professor assistant since 2011. Furthermore, I have had two journal publications.
First deals with developing academic word worksheet for undergraduate students
published in The Asian EFL Journal indexed Scopus. Another one deals with
Formative Evaluation on Course Structure and Credits at English Language
Teaching Curriculum published in Arab World English Journal indexed Thomson
Reuters. I have also become a presenter in international conference in English
teaching held in the University of Mataram, Indonesia. Related to this, one of my
articles, Evaluating the Implementation of English Language Teaching Curriculum,
had been presented in The Fifteenth International Conference on Books, Publishing
& Libraries on July 7, 2017 held in Imperial College London, London, UK.

What are your future aspirations, either career or academic, and how you see this
programme benefitting these aspirations?

My biggest dream is to be a professional lecturer and researcher in English

Language Teaching Curriculum. I strongly believe that the modules provided in the
MA TESOL program of the University of Nottingham can make my dream come true
since it provides not only teaching and learning theories in the classroom but also
the implementation of the theories in the real situation through community-based
project for the refugee. Such project positively contributes to the achievement of my
goals as a professional lecturer and researcher.

Please explain and demonstrate your motivation for applying to this course?

I am totally interested in ELT curriculum since it plays an important role in

educational system. It is in line with Candlin (1984) stated that curriculum is related
to the planning, evaluation, implementation, management, and administration of
educational programs. Furthermore, Nasution (2004: 8) also stated that curriculum is
something planned as a grip to achieve educational goals. On the other hand,
Stenhouse (1975: 4) stated that the different aspects of curriculum must be
structured in such a way that the curriculum document is not only poured in practice,
but also opens space for evaluation. For this reason, I decided to focus my future
study on the area of English Language Teaching Curriculum in Indonesian Context.

What attracted you to want to study at the University of Nottingham?

There are several aspects attracted me to pursue my master degree in the University
of Nottingham. Firstly, the MA TESOL offered strongly suits my interests with the
outstanding modules that balance both practice and theories of TESOL during the
program. Secondly, the university totally gives excellent services to international
students by providing individual tutorials, high-tech learning environment with a
lively, multi-cultural social experience. Finally, the University of Nottingham is one of
the best universities in UK. It is supported by the evidence that it has been awarded
a silver award by Athena SWAN as one of world-class research universities in the
world. It will positively affect my future career.
