ten über den Handel von Waren mit Indien verbunden. Daraus sind vielfäl-
tige Kooperationen in Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Kultur entstanden,
die Indien heute zu einem unserem wichtigsten Partner in der indo-pazi-

Indien hat ein reiches kulturelles Erbe und ist zugleich stark zukunftsori-
entiert. Daraus ergeben sich neue Möglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit
zum Beispiel im Bereich der Klimaschutztechnologien und der Digita-
lisierung.
Die 10. India Week Hamburg lädt vom 20. bis zum 26. November 2023
dazu ein, das Land, die indische Kultur und das wirtschaftliche und
wissenschaftliche Potenzial Indiens kennenzulernen. Einen Überblick
über die Veranstaltungen finden Sie in diesem Programmheft.

I am glad to note that the 10th edition of India Week Hamburg is being held
from November 20-26, 2023.
The India Week Hamburg has emerged in recent years as a prominent symbol
of the City of Hamburg‘s long standing ties with India and the strengthening
Indo-German strategic partnership. The partnership is rooted in strong poli-
tical, economic, cultural and people-to-people ties and the event will surely
foster a sense of appreciation for the incredible diversity of India in Hamburg.
The multi-dimensional ties between India and the City of Hamburg in line
with the motto of India‘s G20 Presidency, „One World, One Family, One Fu-
ture“ will be further strengthened by this event.
I take this opportunity to convey my appreciation and best wishes to the
Senate of Hamburg, industry associations, civil society groups and orga-
nizers of the event for their endeavors in organizing India Week Hamburg
and providing a platform for an enriching experience to all participants.
I wish the event all success.

Ein indischer Abend mit hanseatischem Charme. Die
India Week Hamburg 2023 wird durch den Ersten Bür-
germeister Dr. Peter Tschentscher feierlich eröffnet. Die
Journalistin Julia-Niharika Sen wird die Gäste durch den
Abend führen. Grußworte werden gesprochen von dem
deutschen Botschafter in Indien, Dr. Philipp Ackermann,
und S.E. Harish Parvathaneni, Botschafter der Republik
Indien in Deutschland. Die Keynote hält Debjani Ghosh,
Präsidentin von Nasscom. Ein abwechslungsreiches und
zeitgenössisches Kulturprogramm rundet den Abend ab.
An Indian evening with Hanseatic charm. The India Week
Hamburg 2023 will be officially opened by the First Mayor
Dr. Peter Tschentscher. The journalist Julia-Niharika Sen will
guide the guests through the evening. Greetings will be gi-
ven by the German Ambassador to India Dr. Philipp Acker-
mann and H.E. Mr. Harish Parvathaneni, Ambassador of
the Republic of India to Germany. The Key Note Speech will
be given by Debjani Ghosh, President of Nasscom. A varied
and contemporary cultural program will enrich the evening.

ergetic dances with rousing music that
fuses the art of classical Indian dance
with more modern dance genres. Ash-

ductions has made him internationally
famous, brings a brilliant, glamorous

an adventure trip by Andras Pröve
Jedes Jahr brechen Millionen Gläu-
bige im ganzen Land auf, um ihren
Göttern die Ehre zu erweisen. Bau-
ern und Handwerker, Busfahrer und
Programmierer kleiden sich dann
in Gewänder, die alle Kastenunter-
schiede überdecken. Als Andras
Pröve sich mit ihnen auf die mühsa-
me Reise macht, entdeckt er ein völ-
lig neues Bild von Indien und seinen
Menschen.
Andras Pröve is a well-known photo
reporter and author. At age 23, he
had a severe motorbike accident and
since then he could only move around
in a wheelchair. Only three years after
his accident, he took off in his wheel-
chair to travel across India and later
throughout Asia. His adventure trips
have taken him throughout the Indian
subcontinent and his lectures, films
and photos leave a very deep impres-
sion about the people and the rich cul-
tural heritage of India on his audience.

J. Paul zeigt Bilder aus der Serie #FastestGrowingForest. Die Serie befasst
sich mit dem Lebensraum Wald, der angesichts der schnellen Urbanisierung
und des Klimawandels zunehmend bedroht ist. Klassische Ölgemälde stehen
dabei Werken gegenüber, die mit künstlicher Intelligenz generiert wurden,
wofür der Künstler ein eigenes KI-Modell erschaffen und mit seinen Kunst-

Ein Marktplatz mitten in Kolkata, der
Hauptstadt von Bengalen. Der Ge-
ruch von Gewürzen liegt in der Luft,
überall Farben, überall Menschen,
Stimmengewirr und Autohupen. In-
mitten des Trubels ein Mann der das
Geschehen beobachtet.
Abends wenn die Sonne untergan-
gen ist, erzählt er mit seinen zwei
Händen die Geschichten, die er wäh-
rend des Tages so erlebt hat. Eine
fantasievolle Reise nach Bengalen,
erzählt mittels Handschattenkunst,
Tanz und Live-Musik. Eine Kinder-
Kinder-Uraufführung!

lours everywhere, people everyw-
here, voices and car horns. In the
midst of the hustle and bustle, a
man observes what is happening.
In the evening, when the sun has

Die Ausstellung zeigt Werke des

lers Solomon Raj. Geboren in
Andhra Pradesh, entstammte
er selber einer Familie von Da-
lits („Unberührbaren“). In seinen
Holzschnitten und Batiken the-
matisiert Raj mit indischer For-
mensprache das Leiden der mar-
ginalisierten und ausgegrenzten
Gruppen und identifiziert diese
mit dem Leiden Jesu und seiner
Botschaft der Befreiung.

Im Jahr 2023 leidet Indien unter den
drastischen Auswirkungen der Kli-
makrise. Joshimath, eine Stadt im
Himalaya, steht im Fokus. Trotz ra-
schen Wachstums hinterlässt die ra-
sante Entwicklung ökologische Nar-
ben – sinkende Böden, Rissbildung
in Gebäuden und Umsiedlungen sind
die Folge. Joshimath wird so zum
symbolischen Beispiel für die welt-
weite Herausforderung, wirtschaft-
lichen Aufschwung und Umwelt-
schutz in Einklang zu bringen.
In 2023, India grapples with the seve-
re consequences of the climate crisis.
Joshimath, a city in the Himalayas,
takes center stage. Despite rapid
growth, this swift development lea-
ves ecological scars – sinking ground,
building cracks, and relocations en-

Through the lens of Yarning
Im Rahmen ihrer choreogra-
phischen Residenz am K3 prä-
sentiert Meghna Bhardwaj ihre
künstlerische Forschung mit dem
Titel Yarning als Vortrag und Per-
formance-Installation. Sie wird
einige Notizen zu Fragen der Ab-
stammung (im Tanz), der weib-
lichen performativen Präsenz
außerhalb des häuslichen Raums
und der Körper-Objekt-Interak-
tion teilen. Ihr Schwerpunkt liegt
auf der Beziehung zwischen Tanz
und traditionellen Webprakti-
ken, die sie von ihrer Mutter und
Großmutter geerbt hat.
In the frame of her choreographic
residency at K3, Meghna Bhardwaj
presents her artistic research titled
Yarning as a lecture and perfor-
mance installation. She will share
some notes on questions of linea-
ge (in dance), female performati-
ve presence outside of domestic

Culture Center and has toured India
and Europe in various groups as well

In diesem Workshop geben wir eine
Einführung in den traditionellen und
kulturellen Volkstanz Bhangra (aus
dem Punjab). Vorkenntnisse sind
nicht erforderlich. Der Ablaufplan
umfasst ein kurzes Aufwärm- und
Dehnprogramm, gefolgt vom Er-
lernen von diversen Grundschritten
zu Punjabi Musik. Der Tanz ist sehr
dynamisch und erfordert ein gewis-
ses Maß an Kondition und Koordina-
tionsfähigkeit. Was Du mitbringen
solltest: Sportsachen, ausreichend
Trinken und gute Laune.
In this workshop, we will give an intro-
duction into the traditional and cultu-
ral folkdance Bhangra (from Punjab).
Previous knowledge is not required.
The schedule includes a short war-
ming-up and stretching segment, fol-
lowed by the learning of various basic
steps to Punjabi music. The dance is

Education in a changing world – the “Patengemeinschaft” helps in various
ways
Die Patengemeinschaft unterstützt Kinder und Jugendliche in Südindien seit
über 50 Jahren. In dieser Zeit hat sich die Welt und besonders Indien stark
geändert. Indien ist in diesem Jahr das bevölkerungsreichste Land der Erde

geworden und hat China überholt. Auch die Volkswirtschaft wächst. Aber
für viele benachteiligte Familien und besonders für Kinder hat sich nicht viel
geändert. Die Patengemeinschaft unterstützt ca. 1000 Kinder und Jugend-
liche in der Schul- und Berufsbildung.
The “Patengemeinschaft” has been supporting children and young people in

munity and it unifies a community. In
our times many languages are on the
verge of extinction. With the death of
a language the culture, tradition, and
knowledge system related to that lan-
guage also vanished. We will discuss
Indian languages, their documentati-
on, and the knowledge system related

eigene Radiosendung mit dem
Radio-Experten Gerret Mannes
zu gestalten. Inhaltlich befassen
sich die Teilnehmer:innen mit der
heutigen indischen Kultur und
unterschiedlichen Lebenswelten.
Sie lernen den journalistischen
Umgang mit Radio und werden
in ihren kommunikativen Fähig-
keiten gefördert.
In keeping with the motto “We
learn from and with each other”,
children and young people aged
8 to 15 are invited to create their
own radio show with radio expert
Gerret Mannes. The participants
will deal with today’s Indian cul-
ture and different living environ-
ments. They learn how to use ra-
dio in a journalistic way and at the
same time improve their commu-
nication skills.
