und Hören zu Hause. Linz als Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2009
ruft, entsprechend dem neuen Slogan „Linz.verändert,“ auf, die

hören hörbare Umwelt neu zu gestalten. Hin zum bewussten Hören,

weg von Dauerbeschallung und Lärm im öffentlichen Raum, in
der Schule und in den eigenen vier Wänden. Das Projekt „Hör­

der stadt Linz“ zeigt Wege für mehr Lebensqualität auf.

Hören beginnt ab dem 50. Tag im Mutterleib. Ab diesem
Zeitpunkt sind die drei Sinne aktiv. Sie ermöglichen Raumwahr-

welt nehmung und steuern unbewusst, an Hand der Umweltgeräu-

sche, unser Wohlbefinden. Das Ohr hat eine 10x höhere Wahr-
nehmungskapazität als das Auge und ist bei Dauerbeschallung

Hörstadt ist eine über 2009 hinaus gedachte Initiative für
the eine bewusste Gestaltung unserer hörbaren Umwelt. Sie setzt
sich aus der Kampagne gegen Zwangsbeschallung mit dem Titel

World „Beschallungsfrei“, dem Akustikon als Institution des Hörens

und dem akustischen Stadtentwicklungsprogramm Linzer Char-
ta zusammen.
Begeben Sie sich auf eine Sinnesreise nach Linz. Ent­
decken Sie Ruheoasen, Klangerlebnisse und informieren Sie sich
in Themenworkshops. Die Hörstadt Linz lädt ein, die Welt des
Hörens neu zu entdecken.

Our ear is the centre of our senses, of orientation, balance

and hearing. Linz as Cultural Capital of Europe 2009 calls for
a redesign of our audible environment, according to the new
slogan “Linz,changes”: Conscious hearing, no more permanent
noise imposition in public space and in our homes. The project
“Linz,Acoustic City” wants to present new ways to a better qua-
lity of life.
From the 50th day in our mother’s womb onward we are
able to hear. From this time on all three senses in our ears are
activated. They enable us to perceive space and – unconscious-
ly – guide our well-being according the surrounding noises. Our
ear has ten times the perceptive capacity of our eye, and perma-
nent noise leads to a state of alert, causing stress, impeded rege-
neration capabilities and consequently serious health problems.
One third of the diseases of the cardiac and circular system are
induced by noise exposure. And this number is growing.
Acoustic City is an initiative promoting a more con-
scious design of our audible environment intended to reach
far beyond 2009. The initiative consists of a campaign against
permanent noise imposition under the title “Beschallungsfrei”,
the Akustikon as an institution of hearing, and the acoustic city
development programme Charta of Linz.

workshops. The Acoustic City Linz invites you to rediscover the

Andres Bosshard – geb. 1955 – ist
Musiker, Komponist und Künstler.
Als Klangarchitekt, der sich seit Jahr-
zehnten mit Schall und Ton befasst,
betrachtet er die Stadt als Klangraum.
Im Kulturhauptstadtjahr hat er 25 Hö-
renswürdigkeiten ausfindig gemacht.

Andres Bosshard – born in 1955 –
is a musician, a composer and an
artist. As an acoustic architect who
has worked with sounds for decades
he considers the city as an acoustic
space. In the Cultural Capital year he
has detected 25 hearing sites. These
spots distributed between Ars Elec-
tronica Center and SolarCity make
acoustic effects and sound behaviour
come alive.

Im Jänner 2009 hat der Linzer
Gemeinderat die Linzer Charta
zur Stadtentwicklung und Stadt-
gestaltung in akustischem Sinne
einstimmig beschlossen. In ihr sind
verbindlich Ziele und Werte für die
Gestaltung und Weiterentwicklung
von Linz festgeschrieben. Damit ist
Linz wohl die weltweit erste Stadt

eingeladen der Linzer Charta beizu-
treten.
Beschallungsfrei
Die Kampagne „Beschallungsfrei“
fordert den Stopp der akustischen
Dauerberieselung von der Wurst-
abteilung bis zum Klo, weil unsere
Ohren unverschließbar sind und
Hören ein Menschenrecht ist. Zahl-
reiche Linzer Hotel-, Gastronomie-
und Handelsbetriebe haben sich
angeschlossen und freuen sich über
einen Besuch.
The Linz Charta
In January 2009 the City Council of
Linz unanimously passed the Linz
Charta for city development and
city design according to acoustic
guidelines. This Charta determines
binding targets and values for the
design and further development of
Linz. So Linz is maybe the first city
worldwide with guidelines for its
acoustic development. Other cities
are cordially invited to join the
Charta of Linz.
„Beschallungsfrei“/Campaign
Against Imposed Noise
The campaign „Beschallungsfrei“
calls for a stop to permanent noise
of canned music from the meat
counter to the rest rooms, because
we can not close our ears and it is a
human right to hear. A great number
of Linz’ companies participate in
this campaign and are looking for-
ward to your visit.
