The ring lock is released at the press of a button, whereby the lid opens automatically. It can
also be set individually for each program to open the lid automatically after the end of the
sterilization cycle. The seal is made of heat-resistant silicone and is very reliable. A heat-
resistant plastic cover protects the user from contact and possibly injury by hot components.
Systec V-series autoclaves are fitted ex-factory with a temperature-controlled door lock
according to Pressure Vessel Regulations for the sterilization of liquids and according to
ISO/DIN regulations. In addition, the doors remains locked as long as there is excess
pressure in the chamber.
Control mechanisms:
A specially developed microprocessor regulates all the functions of the autoclave. These
include steam pressure, temperature, sterilization time as well as the optional functions of
rapid cooling, pre- and post-vacuum and drying. In cases of deviation from the set values, a
corresponding alarm is displayed.
Control is by menu and easy to operate. All sterilization parameters can be altered by using
special numerical codes. The control panel is ergonomically integrated into the plastic lid
cover of the autoclave.
Steam generator:
Steam generation takes place in a vessel that is completely separated from the sterilization
chamber (i.e. no heating elements in the chamber itself). The steam generator is built-in into
the autoclave housing. As the generator is separated from the chamber, it needs not be
cooled during the cool-down-phase.
Advantages:
More rapid cooling.
Less cooling water required.
Steam is immediately available after cooling as the steam generator is not cooled.
The steam generator incorporates all the necessary control functions, valves and pumps for
filling with de-mineralized water.

Individual program parameters such as temperature and time can be set and stored
for each of the programs.
Program 1-3: Fast cycle for solids, instruments, apparatus and plastic items, with rapid
steam exhaust.
Program 4-5: For waste material in waste destruction bags. Uses pulsating heat-up phase
for better ventilation of the destruction bags.
Program 6-7: For sterilization of liquid waste material with slow steam exhaust. (or rapid
retro-cooling as an option).
Program 8-11: For liquids with subsequent controlled steam exhaust and self-cooling (or
rapid retro-cooling as an option).
Program variants and programs for special applications are available on request.
The programs run fully automatically. Temperature measurement is done in the sterilization
chamber or in a reference vessel (on liquid sterilization) via a flexible temperature sensor
and by a second fixed sensor at the coldest spot in the condensate exhaust. Both
temperature sensors need to measure the required temperature during the sterilization
phase. A lower temperature will cause a failure message.

The control mechanism consists of combined temperature and pressure regulation which
allows the set steam pressure to be exceeded by up to 0.3 bar during the heat-up phase
without allowing the product temperature to be exceeded. This means that the heat-up phase
can be shortened by ca. 50 % compared with simple temperature regulation. The sterilization
temperature can be freely selected from 60 to 140°C and the sterilization time from 1 to 300
minutes.
The product- respectively the chamber temperature and the pressure within the chamber are
permanently displayed during the entire program. An extended temperature and pressure
range up to 150° C and 5 bar absolute is optionally available. This feature can also be
retrofitted later as the pressure chamber is standard build for the pressure of 5 bar.
Validation, documentation:
For validation with external temperature sensors, a 1/2" validation port is fitted. Various other
options are also available for documentation purposes – from printer to PC software via
interface RS 232 or separate data logger systems for GMP-conform documentation.
Options:
Further options include various rapid cooling systems both with and without support
pressure, vacuum systems, drying processes, ventilation within the chamber, steam-air
mixtures, hot water spraying or sub-aqua systems, lifting devices for the items to be
sterilized, exhaust air filtration for infective microorganisms, prolonged temperature
maintenance phases for the sterilization of extremely resistant microorganism or for material
stress testing in industrial applications. Additional special programs can be compiled and
tested according to customer specifications.
All the above options can also be retrospectively fitted to current Systec Autoclaves.
The basic version includes all the connections necessary for any of the options.

The paper roll is 58 mm wide and has a diameter of 35 mm. At the start of a program the
date, time and the kind of program with the set parameters will be documented. Out of the
sterilization phase the pressure, temperature, program phase and runtime will be printed in
intervals of 2 minutes. During the sterilization phase this parameters will be documented in
intervals of 30 seconds. The paper can be easily exchanged from the front part of the printer.
Air release:
The total elimination of the air also in the sterilized goods is a necessarily requirement for a
proper moistening by the steam of all inner and outer surfaces of the goods to be sterilized
to achieve a secure and validatable steam sterilization.
A pre-vacuum is applied to remove the air prior to the sterilization process, this is especially
important in waste sterilization in conjunction with air enclosure in bags and in the
sterilization of porous materials, filters, textiles, pipette-tips and boxes, tubing’s and other
hollow pieces.
The selection of a single or fractionated pulsed pre-vacuum is possible. The pulsed pre-
vacuum with up to 5 cycles guaranties a total air removal. This insures sterilization of nearly
all kind of hollow items.
In combination with the standard integrated and from the sterilization chamber separated
steam generator and this vacuum system due to multiple vacuum cycles with subsequent
steam generation over atmospheric pressure the air out of the chamber and the hollow
sterilization goods is totally eliminated.

Drying:
A post vacuum facility is available for drying subsequent to sterilization. Suitable for solids,
glassware pipettes, tips and boxes, textiles, cellulose or filters etc.
During the drying phase subsequent to sterilization, the inside of the autoclave is kept warm
by the insulation. At the same time, the vacuum pump generates a vacuum. In this way, the
condensate in the sterilization material vaporizes and is extracted by the vacuum pump.
This ensures the surfaces of the sterilized goods like empty glass ware as well as plastic
articles with a lower moisture contend to be dry on removal from the autoclave.
For the support of drying a pulsed vacuum can be selected. In this mode the post vacuum is
periodically broken by inlet of sterile filtered air. This has the advantage of more energy to
support the evaporation process. In addition the air can carry more humidity which will be
taken out by the vacuum pump.
For absolute drying of even porous goods we suggest an optional mantle heating to
intensify the drying process (Art. No. 9606 “Superdry”)
We use water ring pumps for vacuum because the pump has to transport air as well
as water. A simple membrane pump would fail in continuous operation.

Necessary media:
- Tap water connection for ½“ rubber hose (The vacuum pump can be operated with normal
tap water as long as the hardness of the water is less than 10° dh = 300 µS/cm. )
„Superdry“ wall heating for intensive drying and warm up in stand by prior to
sterilization to avoid unnecessary condensate in the chamber and Temperature
maintenance program to maintain the temperature of solutions subsequent to
sterilization.
Precondition for a good drying function is the installation of a vacuum pump in the
autoclave in conjunction with this “superdry“ wall heating during the vacuum drying
phase.
Functional method of the drying supported by the “superdry“ during a post sterilization
vacuum phase:
After finishing the sterilization phase a vacuum will be created. During this vacuum phase the
separate steam generator installed in the autoclave housing of the Systec V-series
autoclaves will heat the wall of the chamber continuously. This combination of heating under
vacuum creates a very intensive vacuum drying result. All material can be taken out of the
autoclave absolutely dry. Even those like textiles, filters but also pipette tips in boxes or other
hollow or porous material. A post drying in a separate dry oven is not necessary
anymore.
The “superdry“ function can also be used for drying without a vacuum system but only if the
lid of the autoclave is open. In our Systec V-series autoclaves the program can be chosen to
automatically open the lid at the end of a sterilization program in such solid material
programs without liquid sterilization.
The drying without a vacuum pump is hence much less effective and can take a long time
but efficient enough for good surface drying of open solid materials.

In addition the “superdry“ wall heating function can be used for a pre warming function before
start of a sterilization program. This pre heating results in less condensate as the chamber
does not need to be heated by the steam directly.
PC Software for Windows, for documentation of program data, type of program, batch
number, date, time, temperature, pressure and sterilization phase data. Analogue (diagram)

By using this software it is possible to change all sterilizing and program parameter of the
autoclave from the connected computer. Also the selection and start of a particular
sterilization program can be done via the computer.
