Artillerieraketensystem Boden/Boden Lance
Lance Surface-to-Surface Artillery Rocket System
Wehr waren insgesamt vier Batallone vorgeschen, Die drei Raketenar

‘ber 1981) erhielt ebenfalls zwei Systeme fir Ausbildungszwecke, Die
ccinem Lenkraketenwerfer. Beide Fahrzeugvarianten basieren auf ci-
rem weiterentwickelten M113 Fahrgestell.

In 1962 the USA launched the Lance development programme. Develop-
_ment work was carried out by the Ling emco Vought Corporation. The
name Lance concealed 4 new surface-to-surface artillery rocket system. It
was a requirement thatthe system be of simple construction, robust and
reliable. In the late 1960s, the new artillery rocket system mounted! on
the XM667 carrier vehicle was tested successfully. During the bi-annual
conference of defence ministers of European nations in December 1972
it was decided to issue the German Bundeswehr and armed forces of a
few other European NATO member states with the new American shor
range artillery rocket system in order to replace the older Sergeant Arti
lery Rocket System. It was planned to equip four battalions within the
Bundeswehr with the system: namely these were the three rocket artillery
‘battalions of the corps - Raketenarilleriebaaillon 150 based in Wesel,
Raketenarilleriebatillon 250 based in GroBengstingen and Raketenar-
tilleriebataillon 350 based in Montabaur, as well as the Flensburg-based
Raketenanilleriebataillon 650 belonging to 6, Panzergrenadiendivision
(Mechanised Infantry Division 6). For training purposes, two systems
wore issued to the Raketen Artillerieschule des Heeres (Rocket Artillery
School of the Army) in Geilenkirchen-Niederheid (up till 1981). Between
1976 and 1977, a total of 26 rocket artillery systems were fielded by the
Bundeswehr.
Each system consists of one Lade- und Transportfahrzeug Loader Trans-
porter and one Lenkraketenwerfer Launcher Cartier. Both vehicles are
based on a modified M113 chassis. The base vehicle caries the desig
nation M 667. The M 667 is alight, unarmoured and unarmed tracked
amphibious vehiele, and after the installation of certain components,
is used in two different configurations. The Star- und Trigerfahrzeug

‘cargo compartment. This curtain prevents exhaust fumes from entering
the cargo compartment and it stops heated air escaping from the eargo
compartment. On each side of the rear, a foldable trim vane is installed
that provides the required stability when the vehicle is afloat. The drive
train plus the running gear are similar to that of the MTW M 113 AI APC.
Due to the different hull shape, the exhaust pipe of the M 667 is directed
to the front. In contrast to other M113 variants in service with the Bun-
deswehr, the M 667 was not flted with Diehl 213 B double-pin tracks,
land Vehicles retained the US T130 rubber-bushed single-pin link track
with replaceable bolted-on rubber trick pads. Similar to Diehl tracks,
links of the US track feature bucket-shaped ends that allow the vehicle
to be propelled forward when swimming. In contrast to the MTW M 113
AL. the Trigerfahrzeug M 667 base vehicle features only a service brake,
‘Another technical feature of the M 667 isan electro-hydraulie eunning-
_zcar locking system. The locking system blocks suspension movement of
‘the trail armis on which the road wheels are mounted. This gives the vehi-
cle the stability necessary for loading and launch operations. When used
‘asa Lade- und Transportfahrceug M 688 Loader Transporter the vehicle
crew consists of two soldiers. The Lenkraketenwerfer M752 Launcher
Cartier offers space for a crew of six soldiers
‘The Lance Anillery Rocket System incorporates the MGMLS2 short-
range ballistic rocket. The rocket can be fitted with either a conventional
‘or nuclear warhead. The W70 nuclear warhead designed for the system
offers a variable blast force of between | and 100 kilotonnes. The rocket
weighs 1.3 tonnes and itis 6.17m long, Ifthe rocket is fitted witha con:
ventional warhead weighing 454kg, it can engage targets up to a range
fof 75km. When used with a nuclear warhead, the operational range is
up to 130km. When a rocket is launched from the Lenkraketenwerfer
M752 Launcher Carter, a remote firing unit able to be deployed some
100m away from the vehicle ean be used. Live-fire training with the rock:
et system was conducted only at the NATO Missile Firing Installation
(NAMA in Crete.
‘According tothe Artlleriestruktur 85 structure, inthe mid-1980s Rakete:
nanillericbataillon 150 and Raketenartlleriebataillon 330 each featured
{wo firing batteries that could field three Lance Artillery Rocket Systems
cach (one Lade- und Transportfahrzeug M 688 Loader Transporter and
‘one LenkraketenwerferM 752 Launcher Carrier). Raketenarilleriobaal:
lon 650 featured two firing batteries with two systems each, An exception
was Raketenatilleriebatallon 250 of I. Korps (Il Corps). which could
field nine systems that were allotted to thre firing batteries. The 4. Bat-
terie of Raketenarillericbaaillon 250 served as the Raketenartllerielehr
batterie (Rocket Anillery Training and Demonstration Battery) and it
fell under the commang! of the Idar-Oberstein-based Artllerieschule des
Heeres. Inthe event of a confit, the battery would have been reassigned
1 its battalion to become a firing battery again. Battalions of corps-level
artillery with their nuclear capabilities provided a key component in &
nuclear engagement. The Raketenartlleriebataillone Lances were struc
tured into a Stabs- und Versorgungsbatterie (headquarters and service
support battery), wo or three Raketenwerferbatterien (tiring batteries)
and a Wach- und Begleithatterie (close protection battery). For opera
tional purposes, a Sicherungsbatallon (protection battalion) that had to
bbe mobilised, a Nachschubkompanie SW (Sonderwaffen) (special weap:
‘ons logistic company) and an Artlleric-Verbindungs- und Ferameldezug
{aller liaison and signals platoon) that also had to be mobilised would
have been added. Administration of nuclear warheads was done by the
'S Armed Forces. The warheads were stored in well-guarded facilities
known as Sonderwaffenlager (Special Weapons Storage Site). Therefore
‘the German units closely cooperated with company-sized assets of the
59th Ordnance Brigade of the US Army, Raketenattlleiebataillon 150
Worked with the Ist US Army Field Artillery Detachment, Raketenar
tlleriebatallon 250 with the 84th US Army Field Artillery Detachment,
Raketenarilleriebataillon 350 with the 83nd US Army Field Aillery
Detachment, and Raketenartlleriebataillon 650 with the 75th US Army
Ficld Artillery Detachment.
After the reunification of Germany and the country's decision to relin-
{quish weapons with nuclear capabilities, the last Lance Rocket Arillery

insgesamt 494 Fabrzeugen.
Der Panzermorser 120 mm M 113 A G wurde in den Panzeemsrs
cerzgen der Panzergrenadierbataillone, der Figerbataillone und der
Gebirgsfigerbataillone cingesetzt, Zuniichst verfiigien die Panzer:

rechten Fahrzeugseitenwand verschraubt.

Kampfraumluke angeordnet. Der Lukendeckel besteht aus z\vei

‘were shipped from the USA to Germany by the summer of 1968 so
that Rheinstahl-Henschel in Kassel could start working immediately
after signing the conversion contracts. On 19 March 1970, the first
two Panzermirser M 113 Al G vehicles were handed over to the
Jerman Army in a ceremony held at the Hammelburg-based Kamp-
fteuppenschule 1 (Combat Forces School). Prior to reaching series
production standard, vehicles were put through comprehensive trials
at this location. The conversion of MTW M 113 AI APCs into Mortar
Carriers was conducted between 1969 and 1973, as well as between
1977 and 1978. A total of 494 vehicles were converted into Mortar
Carers.
‘The Panzerm@rser 120 mm M 113.A1 G was issued to Panzermorser-
‘iige (mortar platoons) of Panzergrenadierbataillone, Jigerbata
ight infantry battalions) and Gebirgsjigerbataillone (mountain i
{antry battalions). Initially the mortar platoons could field six Mortar
Carriers, but later on under Heeresstruktur 5 from 1992 onwards, they
could field ten Panzermérser 120 mm M 113 Al G Mortar Carriers.
‘This infantry weapon system features the Israeli-made (later licence
produced at Rheinmetall) Mérser 120mm Tampella mortar mounted
‘with its fing direction to the rear on a turntable in the cargo compart
ment of an M 113 Al G APC. The turntable is bolted to the left and
right side walls of the hull. The mortar barrel rests on a bipod placed
in a dolly. The bipod is used to raise, lower and traverse the barrel to
the side, For traversing, the dolly runs on a circular roller conveyor. A
mounting bracket situated at the rear of the cargo compartment holds
the mortar when the vehicle is on the move. A total of 63
mortar rounds can be stored inside the vehicle in storage containers
situated on the left and right sides as well as in the rear. Two benches,
Teft and one on the right, offer space for wo soldiers each
In addition to this, a circular seat is mounted on the turntable of the
mortar. The crew of the Panzermérser M 113.41 Mortar Carrier num-
bers five soldiers, An enlarged hatch is situated above the mortar in
the roof of the cargo compartment. The hatch cover consists of two
parts, of which one is folded to the right and the other one to the left
The 120mm mortar can also be deployed in the dismounted role, and
for this purpose a base plate is carried atthe rear on the outside of the
vehicle. Contrary to all other M113 variants, the Mortar Carrier is
fitted with the Funksprechanlage FSE 38/58 radio set (later replaced
by the SEM 52-S radio) that can also be used in the dismounted role.
‘The vehiele is therefore not fitted with an extra battery set for the ra-
dio equipment. The rear ramp of the Panzermdrser M113 Al G does
not work; itis locked and sealed. Because of the base plate of the
‘mortar, the rear door can only be opened approximately 90°. A stay
for the camouflage net and tarpaulin cover is positioned atthe front of
the vehicle on the trime vane as, due to the enlarged cargo compart
‘ment hatch, they cannot be stored on the hull roof
Between 1991 and 1993, the Mortar Carriers were upgraded and fit
ted with diesel engines with suction cooling systems and EFTS. At
the same time, a large storage basket was placed on the glavis plate
and the trim vane was removed. In the case of upgraded vehicles,
the mortar is intended only for mounted use. In order 10 allow dis

‘mounted employment, the base plate is carried on a support vehicle.
‘The Panzermérser M 113 Al G Mortar Carrier had a combat weight
195kg in its original variant. The curb weight of the vehicle is
9.765kg. With a load of 23 mortar rounds, the vehicle could still be
used in the amphibious role. Modified vehicles with EFTS, designated
Panzerméirser M 113 A2 EFT GE, lost their swimming capability.
‘The Mérser 120mm Tampella mortar has a maximum effective range
of 6 200m and a minimum operational range of 400m. With the mor-
tar a maximum of 15 rounds can be fired in a minute. The vehicle
crew consists of five Soldiers, namely these are the vehicle command
er, driver, gunner, loader and ammunition handler. Special equipment
carried by the Mortar Carrier includes the Festlegkollimator 12 A2
collimator for adjusting the mortar, the Rundblickperiskop PERI-R16
AI sight, and the zeroing unit for the 120mm mortar. The vehicle
commander is in charge of the vehicle and he orders fire missions. His
second-in-command is the gunner. The gunner and loader operate the
‘mortar together. To aim the mortar, the PERI-RI6 Al first has to be
laid onto a fixed point, and the Festlegkollimator 12 A2 colimator is
positioned away from the vehicle for this purpose. The loader uses the
‘so bubble levels (tlt drive and elevation system) of the mortar for
fine tuning. The fourth soldier in the team is the ammunition handler,
who is responsible for preparing the ammunition, ‘The driver is the
fifth member of the crew, and if required, he will man the 7.62mm
MG 3 antiaircraft machine gun in order to protect the vehicle.
‘The Feuerleitpanzer Mirser M 113 Al G Mortar Fire Control Vehicle
also belongs to the Panzermdrser 120 mm Mortar Carrier weapon
system. From 1991 onwards, vehicles were also fitted with EFT.
The vehicles so modified were given the designation Feuerleitpanzer
Morser M 113 A2 EFT GE AO. The vehicle is used to command and
control fire missions of mortar platoons.
‘The bulk of Panzermérser 120 mm M 113 A2 EFT GE Mortar Car-
riers and Feuerleitpanzer Mérser M 113 A2 EFT GE AO Mortar Fite
Control Vehicles were taken out of service from 2008 onwards. This
\vas done without fielding a replacement, a decision controversially
discussed within the ranks of the German Army. Only the following
units can still field Panzermérser 120 mm M 113 A2 EFT GE Mor-
tar Carriers: mortar platoons of the schwere Kompanie (fie support
‘company) of Jigerbataillon 292 of the Deutsch/Franzésische Brigade
(Franco-German Brigade), mortar platoons of the schwere Gebirg-
sjiigerkompanie (fire support company of the mountain infantry) of
Gebirgsjigerbataillone 231, 232 and 233 and the Hammelburg-based
Ausbildungszentrum Infanterie (School of Infantry). During research
for this publication, it was not possible to get conclusive information
‘on whether mortar platoons of the Bundeswehr will be equipped with
1 variant of the Wiesel 2 fitted with an 120mm automatic mortar sys-
tem to replace the Panzermirser M 113 from 2014 onwards.

Minenwurfpanzer Skorpion
Skorpion Vehicle-Based Scatterable Mine-Laying System
in kurzer Zeit abeusperren. Zundchst entstand in Zusammenarbeit
wehrwurfminen AT 2.
.Desert Sabre* (Golfkrieg 1990/91) vier Minenwurfpanzer Skor-

‘The military use of mines can be traced back to the 13th century. Vie
tim-operated mines with mechanical fuses and fragmentation effect were
first used on a larger seale during the US Civil War of 1861-65. Durin
the large-scale land warfare operations of World War 2, the use of mines
‘against personel and vehicles gained great tactical importance. Used de-
fensively, mines are suitable as a blocking weapon. They restrict freedom
‘of movement for the enemy, reduce his combat strength during an attack,
slow him down, and can be used 10 confine him in a particular direction
Mines can also be used offensively to hamper enemy troop movement
behind their own lines or to affect enemy lines of communication. Allin
all, this makes mines an effective and feared threat
During the early years, a mechanical laying system for anti-tank mines
‘was completely missing from the inventory of the Bundeswehr. In the
1970s, the conventional offensive capabilities of Warsaw Pact forces, es
pecially their superior number of main battle tanks (MBT), led to calls for
‘an effective solution that would allow blockage of large areas of terrain
in the shortest possible time, Initial studies were carried out
name of Minenstreumittel (mine-scattering system) and involved Krauss-
Maffei, EWK, Dynamit Nobel and Wegmann. In 1979 the studies led 10
development of the Minenwurisystem Skorpion Vehicle-Based Scatter
able Mine-Laying System. By then, Dynamit Nobel had already devel-
‘oped the AT 2.(DM1274) anti-tank mine and it was therefore an important
contributor. The Bundeswehe decided the scatterable mine-laying system
would be mounted on an M 548 Al Cargo Carrier. In 1980 the manufac
turers and the Bundeswehr signed a contract that covered the procure
rent of 301 systems, Delivery of the first M 548 A1 vehicles started quite
‘quickly, but system integration had not yet been completed and the vehi-
cles initially entered service with the engineers without being fitted with
the scatterable mine-laying system. Therefore, the engineers made use of
the vehicles as cargo carriers. As early as 1981, a first Truppenversuchs-
muster (TVM) prototype vehicle plus a prototype fitted with a wooden
mock-up of the scatterable mine-laying system could be demonstrated
by the Barme/Dorverden-based Panzerpionierkompanie 320 (Armoured
Engineer Company 320). However, another five years passed before the
vehicle finally entered service. In 1986 the first series production vehicles
centered service with the engineers.
By 1989, all vehicles had been delivered to Panzerpionierkompanien
of brigades, and to Pionierbataillone (engineer battalions) of divisions,
Along with procurement of the vehicles, at least 640,000 AT 2 scatterable
ink mines were procured, According to earlier announcements made
by the German Ministry of Defence, it may even have been some 1.2 mil
lion mines. The number can be derived from the contract that covers the
procurement of 32,000 Minenaussto&anlagen DM 12 mine dispensers and
2,000 MinenausstoBanlagen (Ub) DM 28 training mine dispensers. Each
‘of these mine dispensers contains 20 mines.
It is interesting to note that, under Operation Granby and Desert Sabre
during the 1990-91 Gulf War, the British Armed Forces borrowed four
Minenwurffahrzeug Skorpion Vehicle-Based Seatterable Mine-Laying
Systems and 15,000 AT 2 mines from the Bundeswehr. The vehicles were
rot used during the conflict and were later handed back to the Bundeswehr,
In April 2003, Greece purchased 23 Minenwurffahrzeug Skorpion Vehi-
cle-Based Scatterable Mine-Laying Systems from the Bundeswehr. AT 2
‘mines were manufactured under license in Greece by Pyrkal.
‘The Minenwurtfahrzeug Skorpion Vehicle-Based Scatlerable Mine-Lay-
ing System is based on the US-made MS48A1 chassis. The scatterable
‘mine-laying system is mounted on the cargo bed of the vehicle. The sys-
tem has a weight of 1,880kg and consists of the tooftop-shaped base plate
and three Minenwurfeinheiten mine-dispensing units on each side. The
traversable Minenwurfeinheiten are grouped on the base plate at equal in

die jeweils flint Panzerabwehrwurfminen AT 2 (DM 1274/DM.

tain five AT 2(DM 1274/DM 1274 A) scatterable anti-tank mines. This
means each of the six Minenwurfeinheiten mine-dispensing units holds
100 mines and the combat load of the complete vehicle is 600 mines.
The vehicle commander controls the scattering process via the Einstell-,
Prii- und Abfeuergerit (EPAG) setting, testing and fie control unit. The
EPAG is mounted in the crew cabin of the Minenwurffahrzeug Skorpion
\Vehicle-Based Seatterable Mine-Laying System, Depending on the se
lected setting, a minefield with differing mine density, variable depth and
varying time of effectiveness can be created. The EPAG is also used as,
4 diagnostic tool and it records data about the minefield. As the mines
cean be ejected both sides at different distances (6m to 48m), on optimal
terrain a minefield measuring 1,500m by 100m can be ereated in ap-
proximately ten minutes. For comparison, with the tailer-based Minen-
verlegesystem 85 Mine-Laying System it would take approximately an
hhour to create a minefield of the same size. As a result of operational pa-
rameters, the defensive capabilities of the German Army were improved
drastically,
|A charge containing nitrocellulose powder ejects mines from the
MinenausstoBeinheiten (MAE) mine dispenser subunits. The pres
sure generated by the charge ejects the pre-programmed mines from the
Minenausstofeinheiten (MiAE) mine dispenser sub- angle to
the rear. In order to minimise risk to the vehicle and to prevent prema-
ture detonation, the AT 2 mines are not armed when they are scattered.
Five minutes after they hit the ground the electronic system of the mine
activates the erecting mechanism. The mechanism consists of twelve el-
cements that tum the mine upright into its operational position. Ten sec-
‘onds later, the sensors of the mine are activated and the mine is armed,
‘The mine features three sensors: the main sensor sets off the mine when
a vehicle drives over it and another sensor sets the mine off if the mine
is moved (for example. in an attempt to clear it). The third sensor deac
tivates the electronic fuse of the mine for a short period of time in order
to prevent it from detonating for no good reason in the case of ground
vibrations, caused for example by impacts from artillery shells
In the case of a vehicle driving over a mine and activating it, the low-
cone shaped charge of the mine penetrates the bottom of the vehicle. It
can push through 140mm of high hardened steel. Depending on the set
time of effectiveness, the mines will destroy themselves after 3, 6, 12,
24, 48 of 96 hours. The AT 2 mine weighs only 2.2kg, measures 10.Sem
in diameter and is 13cm high. Its charge contains approximately 780g
of hexogen, After engineers have laid the mines, they have to issue a
SCATMINREP (Scatterable Minefield Report) and a SCATMINREC
(Scatterable Minefield Record) to their own forces, reports that include
the position, size, danger zone and effective time of the minefield
‘The MinenWurffahrzeug Skorpion Vehicle-Based Seatterable Mine-Lay-
ing System was put through the Nutzungsdaververlingerung 1 (NDV)
service life extension programme. Modified vehicles were given the des-
ignation Minenwurfpanzer M 113 GI GE AO. At the time of writing,
a Panzerpionierbatailon (armoured engineer battalion) can field eight
Minenwurfpanzer M 113 GI GE AO vehicles. These are divided among
{wo Minenwerfergruppen (mine-scattering sections) with two vehicles
ceach that belong to the 2nd and 4th companies of a battalion. In contrast
to this, Panzerpionierkompanien can field four vehicles that are divided
among two Minenwerfergruppen assigned to the two armoured engineer
platoons of the company.

neue Aufgaben einzuplanen. Ein paar dieser Lsungsansitze werden
in diesem Kapitel exemplarisch vorgestellt

After the MTW M 113 APC hacl entered service with different combat
arms of the Bundeswehr, Wehrtechnische Dienststellen (Test and De-
velopment Facilities) of the army quickly began to notice that the quite
universal vehicle was an ideal platform for a wide range of equipment.
‘Asa result of this, it was planned time and time again that the M 113 be
modified for new tasks during its service, some of which were quite ad
venturous. Some of these plans are outlined inthis chapter as examples,
Shortly after the M 113 entered service. engineers developed a prototype
Of the vehicle fited with an erectable loudspeaker system that featured
‘wo 200W and ,000W megaphones. Between 1968 and 1973, two pro:
totypes of the mobile Beschallungsfabrzeug Acoustic Irradiation Vehi-
cle were built, For trial purposes the vehicles saw service in Andernach
With the PSV-Truppe (*Psychologische Verteidigung”) Psychological
Warfare Force ofthe German Army. The acoustic irradiation system was
mounted on a hydraulic mast and could be raised. It was planned to use
the vehicle along the inner German border for psychological warfare
purposes. However, only prototypes were produced and the project was
terminated after a short while
One of the most ambitious projects by far was probably the unmanned
mobile reconnaissance platform “Kiebitz” (Peewit) developed by Dorn:
ier. Under te project it was planned to develop a captive rotary platform
‘that could be used for battlefield reconnaissance purposes. Based on the
Kleinsthubschraubers Do 32 U mini-helicopter, Dornier developed an
airborne lifting frame that could accommodate the Orphée radar de-
signed in France. A multifunction captive cable linked the Kiebitz Do
32 K (Kabelgebunden ~ captured by cable) to the ground station, The
captive cable included control wires and ones or data transmission from
the radar system, as well asa hose that supplied the turbine engine of the
aireraft with fuel. In 1972, the fist trials were conducted involving the
improved Kiebitz II version mounted on a Henschel truck. However, the
truck did not offer enough versatility and its off-road capabilites were
also limited. Therefore, from 1981 onwards, the German Army tested
whether the battlefield reconnaissance system could be mounted on an
M113 chassis, The results were satisfactory. The major problem that
occurred was the captive use of the system. The rotary platform could
climb 300m high into the air and allow the radar to be operated up to a
range of approximately 63km, but it was foo vulnerable to enemy coun-
termeasures at this height. The requirement for an employment height of
1,000m could not be implemented due to the weight of the multifunction
‘captive cable, as well as the laws of physics regarding the performance
of the fuel-pumping system. Shortly afer this became clear, the pro=
‘gramme was terminated. Only to prototypes were built
In the 1960s the artillery issued a requirement for a suitable replace-
ment for the Beobachtungspanzer kurz, Hotchkiss Typ 22-2 Forward
Observation Officer Vehicle, Despite the fact that it had been refitted
with a panoramic periscope, operators did not consider the vehicle up to
the task. The vehicle quickly reached the limits of its eapabilities, espe-
cially as it did not feature a vehicle navigation system, laser rangefinder
or electrical data communication, and it took too long to execute any
type of fie contro! task. The introduction of a Forward Observation OFF
ficer Vehicle based on the Schiitzenpanzer neu 2 M1 APC manufactured
by MOWAG planned for the mid-1960s did not take place. The devel:
‘opment of a prototype was cancelled in favour of the Schiitzenpanzer
Marder AIF. In 1971, Rheinstahl AG in Kassel was ordered to develop
4a Forward Observation Officer Vehicle forthe artillery based on the M
113 AL. In the following year, the company built four prototypes of the
new Beobachtungspanzer M 113 Al Forward Observation Officer Ve-
hicte in compliance with requirements issued in October 1970. In order
to allow fitting of the required observation equipment, a platform was
