Das 11. Arrondissement in Paris ist durch enge Straßenzüge mit
Häuserfassaden aus Naturstein geprägt. An der Schnittstelle
zwischen einem historisch gewachsenen Gebiet und einem
Areal, das von Haussmann in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahr­
hunderts umgeplant wurde, liegt der neue Sozialwohnungsbau
der Architekten Barrault Pressacco.
Über einem Sockelgeschoss aus Sichtbeton erhebt sich
das massive Kalksteinmauerwerk, dessen Außenwände nicht
nur selbsttragend sind, sondern darüber hinaus auch die Last
der Decken aus sichtbar belassenem Brettsperrholz aufnehmen.
Mit 35 cm im unteren und 30 cm im oberen Bereich sind die
Wände dennoch verhältnismäßig schlank. Im Inneren reduziert
ein leichtes Tragwerk aus Stahlstützen und Stahlträgern die
Lasten auf das Mauerwerk und erlaubt flexible Grundrisse.
The 11 th arrondissement in Paris is characterized by its narrow
street grid with stone fronts to the houses. The present develop­
ment by the architects Barrault Pressacco stands at the interface
between a district that has evolved in the course of history and
an area that was replanned by Haussmann in the second half of
the 19th century.
Rising above an exposed concrete plinth storey are solid
limestone outer walls, which are not merely self-supporting,
but also bear the loads of the exposed laminated cross-
boarded floors. With thicknesses of 35 cm in the lower part of
the building and 30 cm at the top, the external walls are never­
theless relatively slender. Internally, a lightweight bearing struc­
ture of steel columns and beams reduces the loads on the walls
and allows flexible layouts. Thermal protection is afforded by

Der Wärmeschutz erfolgt durch eine dampfdiffusionsoffene
Innendämmung aus Hanfbeton. Das Gemisch aus Hanfstängeln,
Kalk und Wasser ermöglicht eine natürliche Feuchteregulierung
der Innenräume. Es nimmt Wasserdampf auf und kann ihn in
Wärme umwandeln. Der Naturstein stellt nicht nur eine Barriere
gegen die Kälte im Freien dar, sondern bietet darüber hinaus
guten Schallschutz. Durch den einfachen Wandaufbau werden
bauphysikalische Probleme, die sich heute häufig durch eine
Vielzahl an Wandschichten ergeben, reduziert.
Auf sieben Geschossen entstanden 17 Wohnungen und
eine Ladeneinheit. Die zwei obersten Ebenen des Hauptflügels,
der sich zur Straße hin orientiert, springen als Staffelgeschosse
zurück. Der Seitenflügel wendet sich zum Hof. Seine Ebenen
sind etagenweise abgetreppt und gewährleisten ausreichenden
moisture-diffusing internal insulation, consisting of hemp
concrete. This mixture of hemp stalks, lime and water allows
a natural regulation of moisture in the internal spaces. It
absorbs vapour and can transform it into thermal energy, while
the stone not only forms a barrier to external cold, but also
provides good sound insulation. As a result of this simple
form of wall construction, it was possible to reduce problems
relating to building physics that often arise with a larger number
of layers.
The seven floors of the development house a total of 17
dwellings and a ground floor shop. The uppermost two storeys
of the main tract, which faces on to the street, are stepped back.

Sonneneinfall in die Wohnungen und den Innenhof des Gebäu­
deblocks. Trotz des engen Kostenrahmens für den sozialen
Wohnungsbau gelang es den Architekten, das Vokabular und
die Materialität der umliegenden Gebäude in geschickter Art
und Weise aufzugreifen und in zeitgenössische Architektur zu
übersetzen. Die Fassade des Bauwerks lebt nach außen durch
den präzisen Einsatz weniger gestalterischer Mittel. Mit dem
Wechsel zwischen der Sockelzone aus Sichtbeton und Kalkstein
in den Obergeschossen, dem durchgehend feinen Fugenbild
der massiven Mauerwerksweise aber auch mit den plastisch
geformten Laibungen der bodentiefen Fenster erweist der Neu­
bau der historischen Nachbarschaft seine Referenz. Als neuer
Stadtbaustein integriert er sich in das städtische Gefüge und
vermittelt zwischen dem kleinteiligen gewachsenen Gebiet
und den Hausmannschen Straßenfluchten. DR
