Fields of application: - milk separation, - milk clarification, = milk standardisation, ~ whey separation. Partial de-sludgings necessary during processing are carried out at regularly timed intervals according to a preselected program. pe-sludging (opening and closing of the bowl) is effected hydraulically by means of operating water which is supplied via a solenoid valve incorporated in the operating-water connection of the centrifuge. The operating-water connection is not described In this instruction manual (see instruction manual for centrifuge). 1.2 Design Two universal multirange plug-in timing relays, a press-button and the main switch are fitted in the door of the timing unit cabinet (see fig. 0/1). Mounted on a panel inside the timing unit (fig. 0/2) are: - a timing relay, - an impulse relay, = an automatic cut-out, - a terminal strip for connection of the electric leads. Cable entry is from below via screwed glands. The timing unit is assembled ready to operate and is fully wired ready to connect up. The timing unit complies with VDE regulations. 8134-007 wt 2 Technical data Nominal and connecting voltage 220 VAC, - 20% / + 10 % (Spectal version for 110 VAC) Frequency Power consumption 50 and 60 Hz approx. 50 VA (including solenoid valves) Control voltage 220 VAC Ambient temperature up to 55°C Housing Stainless steel plate Type of protection Dimensions IP 54 See arrangement of control elements diagram in appendix Weight 12 kg cable inlet 4x Pg 13.5 (from below) 8134-007 2/1 3.Installation The timing unit should be mounted close to the centrifuge on a wall or a free~ standing columa. If the timing unit is to be mounted on a wall, a clearance of bout 20 mm should be kept between wall and cabinet. Dimensions for fastening the cabinet are given in the dimensioned drawing in the appendix. The mounting holes in the back wall of the cabinet must be sealed by means of gaskets supplied with the timing unit (fig. 3/1). Although the timing relay, switch and push button are dampproof and the inside of the cabinet is protected against entry of moisture by means of the gasket in the door, the timing unit should not be installed in excessively humid areas. A special version for 110 V AC is available. Before connecting the timing unit to the mains, ensure that the power supply is the same as the rated voltage indicated on the red nameplate inside the control cabinet. Also make sure the solenoid valves for operating water and hood flushing water are also designed for the voltage indicated on the name-plate. The plug-in universal multirange timing relays are switchable for 50 or 60 liz. The mains frequency stated at time of order is preset at the factory. Subsequent change-over from 50 to 60 Hz or vice versa can be carried out by means of the change-over device at the back of the timing relay (fig. 6/2a) at any time. A wire cross-section of 1.5 mm? is sufficient for all lines. The arrangement of the series terminals on the terminal block is shown in diagram No. 8134~0202-260 in the appendix. The current rating of the main fuse (slow-blow) should be 10 Amps. The cable glands for electric lines must be tightened properly and must be packed with luting agent. 9134-007 4/1 5. Adjustments, working principle and operation 5.1. General information on setting the timing relays The following six running-time ranges can be preset on the relays by means of an adjusting knob: - 0.1 ~ 3.0 seconds (s) ~ 1,0 = 30.0 seconds (s) - 0.1 - 3.0 minutes (m) = 1.0 - 30.0 minutes (m) - 0.1 - 3.0 hours (h) = 1,0 = 30.0 hours (h) Setting the running-time range: Turn adjusting knob A until the range marking 1s against the presetting mark B (arrow). The adjustment can be made with the timing relay stationary or running and is effective immediately. Setting the running time: Turn adjusting knob C until the black adjusting pointer is against the desired running time. A red elapsed-time pointer follows the adjusting pointer when it is turned, which indicates the elapsed time when the timing relay is running (running indication). If the running time is adjusted in the direction of elapsed time while the timing relay is switched on (i.e. reduced time) the new setting ts immediately effective. However, if the running time Is adjusted in the opposite direction to the direction of the elapsed time (1.2. increased time), it is only effective after the running time in progress has elapsed. 5.2 Adjusting the timing relays ‘The timing relay “Separation” determines the Press button ine after elapse of wileh a partial de= uration of operating-vater feed for opening sludging 1e to be carried ou the bowl - (io adjuse the separation tine see 5.3.) Adjustment tine: 0.2 - 0.3 see (depending on the operating-wste: preacure and the volume of solide to be ejected). 8134-007 5/1 Plug connector Fig. 5/2 Timing relay “Pre-flushing” determines the Impulse relay for hood flushing- duration of feed of hood flushing water water impulse. before the partial de-sludging. Adjustment time: Pause 60 sec Adjustment time: about 30 sec. Impulse 1 sec B1a4enn7 s/> 5.3. Setting the separation time Accurate adjustment of the separation time (running time between de-sludgings) is only possible with time-dependent control when the throughput and solids content of the product remain constant. If that is not the case, the adjustment may have to be corrected during operation. ‘The separation time depends on, = the solids content of the product, = the size of the sediment holding space of the bowl, = the throughput capacity of the centrifuge. ‘The separation time can be found by calculation. ‘The sediment holding space can only be fully utilized for partial de~sludgings when the solids content of the feed product remains absolutely constant. If the solids content fluctuates a reduced sediment holding space volume must be allowed for (empirical value for low fluctuations: 80 %), in order to avoid the accumulated solids from extending into the disc set. Example for calculating the separation time: Given: Solids content in % by vol. £ = 01% Sediment holding space at 100 % utilization G = 31 Sediment holding space at 80 % utilization G = 2.41 Throughput capacity M = 5000 1/h Required: Separation time t = 2 min The separation time to be set is calculated as follows: 60.100. G _ 60. 100. 24 M.f 5000 . 0.1 230 min The separation time of 30 minutes is preset on the “Separation” relay as follows: = Turn pre-selection adjustment knob A until the running-time range “h” is on pre~ selection mark B. = Turn adjustment knob C to scale value 0.5 (0.5 x 60 min = 30 min). 8134-007 5/3 5.4 Working principle and operation The running-time range and running time “Separation” and “De-sludging” have been selected and adjusted. - Turn on the main switch. - Timing relay KI “Separation” starts running inmediately. The elapsed separation time is indicated by the red elapsed time pointer. - When the main switch is turned on, the impulse relay K4 "Hood flush-water impulse" is energised. After elapse of the preset waiting time the hood flush- water valve is activated. - After elapse of the Kl relay running time K2 timing relay "Pre-flushing” runs. - After elapse of the K2 relay running time K3 timing relay "De~sludging” runs. = After elapse of the K3 relay running time &2 and K3 are reset. - Kl starts again. ‘The program in progress can be interrupted at any time and a de~sludging of the bowl can be immediately Introduced by pressing the "De-sludging" button. After completion of this forced de~sludging the timing program automatically switches back to separation. The program sequence is interrupted when the main switch is turned off. All timing relays and the impulse relay revert to their Initial position. ‘The function diagram below shows the program sequence. Separation KI Pre-flushing K2 Partial de-sludging K3 Separation Kl Rinse-water Impulse K4 Hood flushing-water Opening water (operating water) Function diageam Section 5 (Adjustments, working principle and operation) should be read in conjunction with Section 6 of the centrifuge instruction manual. 8134-007 5/4 6 Malfunctions Mains failure or interruption of current causes the timing unit to fail. All timing relays return to the initial position. When the fault is corrected the program starts again with the full running of the separation time. As it will generally not be known when the last de-sludging has taken place, a de~ sludging should be initiated by pressing the push button immediately the timing unit is restarted. Faults in the timing unit require the services of an electrician. Fault finding should be carried out with the aid of the circuit diagram (see page 7/2). If it is established that the fault is not in the timing unit and there is power at the solenoid valve connections on the terminal strip in the timing unit, then the fault is either a fault on the solenoid valve or a break in the connecting line. ‘There is an automatic cut-out (G1 A) on the mounting plate in the timing unit to protect against short-circuit and overload of all electrical parts of the timing unit. Tripping of the safety cut-out can be caused by a faulty valve solenoid or relay. ‘The plug-in design of the relay means it can be quickly changed. The relay on the mounting plate can be withdrawn from the socket by releasing the locking device (Zig. 6/2a). When the replacement relay 1s plugged in, move the two red levers into the locked position. The timing relays in the cabinet door can be withdrawn to the front once the plug connector is disconnected and the two securing clamps (fig. 6/2b) are loosened. IMPORTANT: The timing relays can be set for 50 or 60 Hz. When changing a timing relay ensure that the frequency of the relay is the same as the timing unit. The timing unit does not require maintenance. It is recommended that a spare timing relay is held in stores so that a quick exchange can be made in the event of a fault. 8134-007 6/l Locking levers _— Frequency change-over switch Fig. 6/2a: Timing relay on mounting plate — Securing clamps Plug connector y Plus ~~ Frequency changeover switch Fig. 6/2b: Timing relay in cabinet door 8134-007 6/2 Arrangement of control elements On 18134-0202-260 BRR : ; | 8134-007 mA diagram Cireuit 7/2 8134-007 Timing unit equipment list AT TQUPTON zm - s'0 va WS ayaqs Teuywrzey “1x suowors vt 10 €T NS S ano-3no oyaeworny | 000-Z198-$000 z a 8 Q0T esneg ‘s ¢*dut 000-sze€-5000 aoysFetyss| — 2H 09/04 ~ A 0zz 1 ve daa Ketaa astndut | o10-080-S000 9 vy ¥0E - 8 170 000-02€£-$000 AOYSTOTUDS 2H 09/05 - A Oz da + Is 2S Za Aeqea BuywyL | 0Z¥-¥S¥0-S000 s a yoe -s 170 000-sLee-s000 zayoreTyss| 2H 09/0S ~- A 027 sa + 18 zs za Aeqea Bupmry | 0z9-"S70-S000 € a woe - 8 170 000-02€€~5000 OYITOTUIS: 2H 09/05 - A 02% ia +18 7 2d Aeyaa BuywyL | 07%-¥S90-S000 z Dh 90 - OO¥T as € 000-9200-s000 suowars oN T ToavO - 0001 gs € | YoIFMs worang-ysna | O¢0-Z800-S000 ” zs. a0 - oovt as € 000-9200-000 suomors ON z ToovE-000T aS € pea ‘yoatas ureH | OTO-92T0-S000 1 1s yor] ww OIZ x OO x OBE W7a TeOl a¥ Butsnon | OT0-6S00-S000 waed wats axeK prep TeoTWUDeL dk, uopadyaoseq aoquny aaeq | auazng | uoya ung 73 8134-007
