Analysis: Schrank is a noun of male gender. An den schrank (here the noun
„schrank“ is of case Akkusative). In the second part of the phrase, am
Schrank – is in the case of Dative.
Er legt (legen ) = to put/mettre;
e. The cat goes next to the chair, the dog sits already near it.
f. The cat jumps on the table. The clock is hanged over the table.
e. Die Katze geht neben den Stuhl, der Hund liegt schon neben dem
Stuhl. *

* : When we have a stationary verb (liegen, hangen), Stuhl and Tisch are
Masculin nouns but borrow the „dem“ article. If we have movement verbs
(gehen,springen), Stuhl and Tisch get „den“ article. (The case is different.
