Hubert Kross wurde am 30. März 1934 in Leip-
zig geboren; hier legte er 1952 das Abitur und
1956 das Staatsexamen in Komposition an der
Hochschule für Musik Felix Mendelssohn Bar-
tholdy ab. Kompositionslehrer waren Wilhelm
Weismann, Arnold Matz und Fidelio F. Finke.
1956–58 war er Fachlehrer für Klavier, Musik-
lehre und Blockflöte an der Volksmusikschule
Cottbus, 1958 bis 1973 Dirigent an den Thea-
tern in Senftenberg, Döbeln, Cottbus und Ro-
stock sowie beim Staatlichen Vogtlandorche-
ster in Reichenbach. Von 1973 bis 1981 arbeite-
te er am Konservatorium Cottbus als Theorie-
lehrer und Leiter des Jugendblasorchesters der
Schule. 1981–89 war Hubert Kross in Bautzen
als Orchesterleiter des Staatlichen Ensembles
für sorbische Volkskultur und Leiter der Bautz-
ner Sinfoniekonzerte, die gemeinsam von bei-
den Bautzner Orchestern – damals bestand
noch als zweiter Klangkörper ein Theaterorche-
ster – bestritten wurden, tätig. Er unternahm
Konzertreisen nach Tschechien, der Slowakei,
Polen, Rußland. Es folgten Rundfunkaufnah-
men mit dem eigenen Orchester, dem Großen
Rundfunkorchester Leipzig und dem Rund-
funkblasorchester Leipzig sowie Gastdirigate
bei den Orchestern des Staatlichen Folkloreen-
sembles Berlin und der Slowakischen Philhar-
monie in Košice (Kaschau – Slowakei), mit letz-
terer Gastspiel beim Janaček–Festival in Ostra-
va (Mährisch–Ostrau – Tschechien). Von
1989–92 lehrte er an der Hochschule für Musik
Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden Musikge-
schichte, Korrepetition und Instrumentenkun-
de und leitete an den Musikgymnasien in Baut-
zen und Hoyerswerda jeweils eine Klavierklas-
se. Nach seiner Übersiedlung in den Schwarz-
wald wurde er Lehrbeauftragter für Klavier an
der Jugendmusikschule Hochrhein/Südlicher
Schwarzwald.

Hubert Kross
Hubert Kross was born on March 30, 1934, in
Leipzig. There he took his school–leaving exam
in 1952 and in 1956 his state exam at the Felix
Mendelssohn Bartholdy College of Music,
where he had studied composition with Wil-
helm Weismann, Arnold Matz and Fidelio F.
Finke. From 1956 to 1958 he was subject tea-
cher for piano, music theory and recorder at
the Volksmusikschule Cottbus. From 1958 to
1973 he conducted the orchestras of the
theatres in Senftenberg, Döbeln, Cottbus and
Rostock and of the Staatliches Vogtlandorche-
ster in Reichenbach. From 1973 to 1981 he
taught music theory at the Cottbus Conserva-
tory and was leader of its youth wind band.
From 1981 to 1989 Hubert Kross conducted the
State Ensemble for Sorbic Culture and was
head of the symphonic concerts in Bautzen.
These concerts were given by both Bautzen or-
chestras – at that time there also existed a
theatre orchestra. He went on concert trips to
the Czech Republic, to Slovakia, Poland and
Russia. He made recordings with his own or-
chestra, with the Radio Symphony Orchestra
Leipzig and its wind band. He was guest con-
ductor of the orchestras of the Staatliche Fol-
kloreensemble Berlin and of the Slovakian Phil-
harmony in Košice (Kaschau – Slovakia), with
which he had a performance at the Jana-
ček–Festival in Ostrava (Mährisch–Ostrau,
Czech Republic). From 1989 to 1992 he was
lecturer at the Carl Maria von Weber College
of Music in Dresden for music history, correpe-
tition and instruments and he had piano
classes at the music grammar schools in Baut-
zen and Hoyerswerda. Having moved to the
Black Forest Hubert Kross became lecturer for
piano at the music school Hochrhein/Southern
Black Forest.
