1. Halloween und Fasching

2. Wenn es ums Verkleiden geht, denken viele Menschen heutzutage zuerst an Halloween.
Diese amerikanische Tradition ist mittlerweile auch in Deutschland angekommen und
ist vor allem bei Kindern sehr beliebt. Doch ehrlich gesagt kann ich mit Halloween nicht
so viel anfangen.

3. Zum einen bin ich nicht so der Fan vom Verkleiden. Wieso etwas sein, was man nicht
ist? Außerdem ist das doch viel zu stressig sich jedes Jahr wieder etwas Neues
ausdenken zu müssen. Man kann ja schließlich nicht jedes Jahr das gleiche Kostüm
anziehen. Aber zum anderen finde ich, gibt es in Deutschland schon einen Anlass zum
Verkleiden; den Fasching.

4. Der Karneval, wie der Fasching auch genannt wird, ist die sogenannte fünfte Jahreszeit
in Deutschland. Die Faschingszeit startet in vielen Regionen jedes Jahr am 11.11. um
11.11 Uhr. Doch die richtigen Faschingsfeste finden erst im Februar in der Woche vor
dem Aschermittwoch statt. So ist es an Weiberfastnacht, dem Donnerstag in der Woche
zuvor, Brauch, den Männern ihre Krawatten abzuschneiden. Und vor allem am
Fastnachtsdienstag wird dann ausgiebig in Kneipen und auf der Straße gefeiert.

5. Sogar in den Schulen kommen Schüler und Lehrer als Indianer, Hexen, Clowns oder
Schornsteinfeger verkleidet. Der Fantasie sind bei den Kostümen keine Grenzen gesetzt.

6. Vor allem im Ruhrgebiet gibt es zudem große Karnevals-Umzüge auf den Straßen.
Besonders in Köln sind die Narren los. In der Gegend gibt es viele Karnevalsvereine, in
denen Funkenmariechen das ganze Jahr über auf ihre Tanzauftritte üben. Die
Funkenmariechen treten dann in Tanzgarden bei den Umzügen auf. Die Teilnehmer der
Umzüge werfen den Zuschauern Süssigkeiten zu, die Kamelle genannt werden. Das Ziel
vieler Kinder ist es, dabei möglichst viele Kamelle zu fangen.

7. Also ihr seht, es gibt viele tolle Traditionen zum Fasching. Aber ich muss sagen, das
Einzige, das mir an Fasching wirklich gefällt, sind die Pfannkuchen, die es überall gibt!

2. When it comes to dressing up, what first comes to mind for many people today is
Halloween. This American tradition has by now arrived in Germany, and is especially
popular with children. Although to be honest, Halloween isn't really my thing.

3. For one, I'm not much of a fan of getting dressed up in a costume. Why be something that
you're not? Besides, it's just so stressful to have to think up something new every year.
After all, you can't really wear the same costume every year. On the other hand, there's
already another opportunity to dress up; Fasching.

4. Fasching, also known as Karneval, is the so-called "fifth time of year" in Germany.
Fasching-time starts in many regions on November 11th at 11.11 every year, although the
proper Fasching celebrations only start happening in February in the week before Ash
Wednesday. According to custom, on Women's Carneval Day, the Thursday before Ash
Wednesday, the men get cut off their ties. There are also extensive celebrations in the
streets and pubs, particularly on Shrove Tuesday.

5. Even in the schools, the students and teachers come dressed as indians, witches,
clowns, or chimney sweeps. Imagination has no limits with the costumes.

6. Most notably in the Ruhr district, there are also large Karneval parades in the streets.
Particularly in Cologne, there are many "fools" (as they call themselves). In the area
there are many Karneval clubs, in which red-coated dancing girls can practice their
dance performance throughout the year. The dancing girls perform in groups in the
parades. The participants in the parade throw candy called "Kamelle" to the audience.
The goal of many children is to catch as many "Kamelle" as possible.

7. So you see, there are many great traditions for Fasching. But I must say, the one thing I
really love about Fasching is the pancakes everywhere!
