It’s not just Heimtextil that will be celebrating an anniversary in
2020. The Green Directory has been informing Heimtextil visitors
about the multi-dimensional nature of diversity for 10 years.
The Green Village offers a platform for quality mark organisations
and certification bodies and is also the first point of call for all
questions around this theme.
In particular, the use of symbolic eco-leaves to identify specific
exhibitors has proven to be a useful navigation aid. The stated
quality marks and certificates as well as the sustainable
materials determine which particular eco-leaf is used for which
exhibitor. For the first time, the 17 Sustainable Development
Goals of the United Nations are also taken into account here:
Exhibitors who are committed to sustainability and the realisation
of these goals can highlight this engagement here.
Exhibitor information was gathered in the run-up to the fair
and checked for validity and authenticity against the relevant
certificates. Only if they passed this check were exhibitors
awarded the “Eco-friendly materials”, “Eco-friendly processes”
or “Sustainable social standards and transparency” eco-leaf.

Nicht nur die Heimtextil feiert 2020 ein Jubiläum – auch das
Green Directory! Seit mittlerweile 10 Jahren informiert es
das Fachpublikum über die Vielschichtigkeit der Nachhaltigkeit
auf der Heimtextil. Das Green Village der Siegelgeber und
Zertifzierer ist dabei die zentrale Anlaufstelle für alle Antworten
rund um dieses Thema.
Besonders die Kennzeichnung bestimmter Aussteller mit den
symbolischen Eco-Blättern hat sich als Ratgeber und Wegweiser
bewährt. Die aufgeführten Siegel und Zertifikate sowie nach-
haltige Materialien bilden die Basis dafür, welcher Aussteller mit
welchem Blatt ausgezeichnet wurde. Erstmals werden hier auch die
17 Ziele der United Nations berücksichtigt: Aussteller, die sich
den Nachhaltigkeitsbedingungen und der Verwirklichung dieser
Ziele verschrieben haben, können dies hier sichtbar machen.
Die Daten der Aussteller wurden im Vorfeld der Messe erhoben
und mit den entsprechenden Zertifikaten auf Gültigkeit und
Echtheit überprüft. Erst dann erhielten sie das Eco-Blatt
„Umweltfreundliche Materialien“, „Umweltfreundliche
Prozesse“ und „Nachhaltige Sozialstandards und Trans-
parenz“. Das Blatt kennzeichnet den Stand des Ausstellers.

Whether in street demonstrations or in the media – the pressing
need for more sustainability is a big issue for today and for
the future of our children. It is no longer just about products, but
about a new attitude, a new way of thinking.
This forward-looking thinking is a central theme at Heimtextil.
We have four key elements that show the multidimensional nature
of our treatment of sustainability: the Green Directory, the Green
Village for quality mark organisations and certification bodies and
the Green Tours to selected exhibitors which start at the Village.
A new, fourth element are the Green Lectures with exciting talks
and panel discussions, which will take place daily in Sleep!

Haltung, um neues Denken.
Dieses zukunftsweisende Denken ist ein zentrales Thema der
Heimtextil. Mit vier Bausteinen zeigen wir Ihnen, wie vielschichtig
Nachhaltigkeit inzwischen behandelt wird: mit dem Green
Directory, dem Green Village der Siegelgeber und Zertifizierer
und mit den Green Tours, die hier zu ausgewählten Ausstellern
starten. Der neue, vierte Baustein sind die Green Lectures:
spannende Vorträge und Podiumsdiskussionen, die täglich im
„Sleep! The Future Forum“ (Halle 11, Foyer Nord) stattfinden.

Heimtextil presents Sustainable Pakistan

the German cooperation and development agency GIZ. It links
sustainable Pakistani textile producers with fashion brands and

THE BLUE ANGEL / DER BLAUE ENGEL / Hall 12.0, Stand A30B
was the world’s first and is the best-known eco-label in Germany.
Independent and credible, it sets demanding standards for environmen-
tally friendly, healthy and durable products and services. The Federal
Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Environment Agency
guarantee that the strict criteria of the Blue Angel are developed based
on science and that the eco-label is awarded only after a thorough
inspection process. Blue Angel certification provides evidence that high
environmental standards are observed in the textile manufacturing
process. Occupational safety and social conditions in production are
improved, harmful chemicals are avoided in the end product and good
usability is ensured.

COTTON MADE IN AFRICA (CmiA) / Hall 12.0, Stand B57
is a standard for sustainable cotton from Africa and was founded in
2005 by entrepreneur Dr Michael Otto. CmiA is an initiative of the
independent Aid by Trade Foundation (ABTF) based in Hamburg.
Instead of collecting donations, it helps people to help themselves
through trade. Textile companies and brands worldwide use
CmiA-certified cotton for textile production and pay a license fee
to the initiative for displaying its label. CmiA reinvests income from
licenses to train smallholders in sustainable and efficient cotton
cultivation, to ensure better working conditions for factory workers
in cotton ginning plants, to protect the environment and to create
transparency along the textile chain. People in these cotton-growing
regions also benefit from education and health projects and small-
holders are strengthened in their professional and social independ-
ence. “Cotton made in Africa” products can be recognised by a
small label on the product. With each purchase, consumers can do
something good for the people behind our clothing, for sustainable
textile production and for environmental protection.

ist das weltweit erste und bekannteste Umweltzeichen in Deutsch-
land. Unabhängig und glaubwürdig setzt er anspruchsvolle Maßstäbe
für umweltfreundliche, gesunde sowie langlebige Produkte und
Dienstleistungen. Das Bundesumweltministerium und das Umwelt-
bundesamt garantieren, dass die strengen Kriterien des Blauen Engel
wissenschaftlich erarbeitet werden und das Umweltzeichen nur
nach sorgfältiger Prüfung verliehen wird. Mit dem Blauen Engel für
Textilien werden hohe Umweltstandards im Herstellungsprozess
beachtet. Arbeitssicherheit und soziale Bedingungen in der
Herstellung werden verbessert, gesundheitsbelastende Chemikalien
im Endprodukt vermieden und gute Gebrauchstauglichkeit
sichergestellt.

COTTON MADE IN AFRICA (CmiA) / Halle 12.0, Stand B57
ist ein Standard für nachhaltige Baumwolle aus Afrika und wurde im
Jahr 2005 vom Unternehmer Dr. Michael Otto gegründet. Träger von
CmiA ist die unabhängig agierende Aid by Trade Foundation (ABTF)
mit Sitz in Hamburg. Statt Spenden zu sammeln, leistet sie Hilfe zur
Selbsthilfe durch Handel. Textilunternehmen und Brands weltweit
nutzen CmiA-zertifizierte Baumwolle zur Textilproduktion und das
gleichnamige Label am Produkt gegen eine Lizenzgebühr. Einnahmen
aus Lizenzen reinvestiert CmiA dafür, Kleinbauern im nachhaltigen und
effizienten Baumwollanbau zu schulen, Fabrikarbeitern der Baumwoll-
entkörnungsanlagen bessere Arbeitsbedingungen zu sichern, die
Umwelt zu schützen und Transparenz in der textilen Kette zu schaffen.
Die Menschen in den Baumwollanbaugebieten profitieren außerdem
durch Schul- oder Gesundheitsprojekte und Kleinbäuerinnen werden
in ihrer beruflichen und gesellschaftlichen Unabhängigkeit gestärkt.

supply chain with quality control. Only down and feathers of geese and
ducks coming from controlled breeding, are allowed to be used for
bedding, outdoor items and clothing. Products from live plucking and

The Grüner Knopf scheme is the first state-supervised certification
mark that sets requirements for both products and companies. It
ensures that companies' duty of care is certified by the state along
the textile supply chain. Currently the certification scheme takes into
consideration 46 social and environmental sustainability criteria.
The makeup of the criteria is based on a holistic understanding of
sustainability and the inspections are carried out by independent
institutions. The focus of the mark is ultimately on achieving better
consumer orientation and on facilitating more sustainable purchasing
decisions. It aims to make relevant products more visible and also
to increase consumer trust through state certification.

OEKO-TEX® CERTIFICATION SYSTEMS

is a third-party certification system for companies along the textile
value chain that offers a holistic assessment and continuous
optimization of their production facilities with regard to sustainable
aspects and that allows them to transparently communicate their
achievements to different stakeholders.

is an independent product label for sustainably produced textiles
that have been tested for harmful substances. The MADE IN GREEN
product label can be awarded to any kind of textile, anywhere in
the world, at any stage of the textile supply chain. Consumers can

thus offering new levels of transparency to both customers as well
as business partners.

Der Grüne Knopf ist das erste staatliche Siegel, das nicht nur das
Produkt prüft, sondern auch das Unternehmen als Ganzes. Unter-
nehmerische Sorgfaltspflicht wird so entlang der Textil-Lieferkette
staatlich zertifiziert. Aktuell erfolgt die Zertifizierung für 46 soziale
und ökologische Nachhaltigkeitskriterien. Die Zusammensetzung der
Kriterien folgt einem ganzheitlichen Verständnis von Nachhaltigkeit
und die Prüfungen erfolgen durch unabhängige Institutionen. Im
Fokus des Siegels liegt letztendlich die bessere Orientierung und damit
die Erleichterung nachhaltigerer Kaufentscheidungen. Einerseits
sollen entsprechende Produkte sichtbarer gemacht und anderer-

is a certification program for child-labour-free carpets and home tex-
tiles from India, Nepal and Afghanistan. Apart from the fight against

carpets with the GoodWeave label.

GOTS
The Global Organic Textile Standard is a worldwide recognized textile
processing standard for certified organic fibres, including ecological
and social criteria for the entire supply chain of clothing and home
textiles. It defines high-level environmental standards and requires
compliance with far-reaching social criteria. GOTS prohibits the
use of genetically modified organisms, highly dangerous chemicals
(such as those on the Greenpeace Detox List), as well as the
employment of child labour and discrimination. There are also strict
requirements for waste water treatment methods and socially
