2. Warranty
BINDER products are manufactured with great care and checked carefully prior to delivery (VDE-piece
checked).
1. Should your BINDER product have a material defect or manufacturing fault, we shall repair it – as long
as it is a new BINDER product – free of charge if the defect or fault occurs within 12 months after
delivery. This period will be extended to 24 months, starting from delivery, provided that all
maintenance and potential repair work within the first 12 months is carried out by us or authorized
service stations.
2. Should you discover a defect or fault in your BINDER product within the aforementioned period,
please inform the company from which you purchased the BINDER product or BINDER directly.
3. All above-mentioned periods or deadlines shall begin with the delivery of a new BINDER product to
the end buyer. Producing the invoice or delivery note shall bring evidence of deadline keeping.
4. In case a BINDER product has a defect or fault, we shall either replace the defective product with a
new one or repair the defective product at our discretion (so called supplementary performance –
“Nacherfüllung”). All parts replaced in the course of such repair shall become our property. Deadlines
mentioned under above number 1 shall not be prolonged by repair work or substitution. In case
supplementary performance should fail, usual warranty rights according to German Law (withdrawal
from contract or price reduction) shall apply, provided the defect or fault occurs within the first 12
months. Should the 24 month-period be relevant and supplementary performance fail, you shall only
be entitled to a price reduction.
5. Should the defect occur within 12 months after delivery, we shall take over all costs necessary for the
repair of the defect, especially transportation, travel and labor costs, in so far as there is no cost
increase due to the product being brought to another location than the place of delivery. However, we
shall decide whether the defect will be repaired at the location where the BINDER product is operating
or whether the BINDER product has to be sent to us. In case the 24 month-period should be relevant,
please send the defective BINDER product at your expense to BINDER or the company from which
you purchased the BINDER product. We shall repair the BINDER product at your premises only if
transportation costs are excessively high. The customer shall be liable for any risk of sudden
destruction or deterioration.
6. Should you have to send back a BINDER product, the BINDER product will have to be supplied in its
original packaging or any similar suitable packaging.
7. All warranty claims as laid down in this document basically become invalid:
• if the defect or fault is caused by repair or intervention by non-authorized persons. With authorized
persons, we mean only Binder service engineers and service engineers of our service partners.
• the same applies if you have attached non-suitable parts or accessories to the BINDER products,
which are not original BINDER spare parts, and if those parts or accessories have caused the
defect or fault.
• parts that become used due to natural wear and tear, e.g. door seals, lamps, lights (enumeration
not exhaustive)
• defects caused by external intervention like e.g. fall or blow
• defects arising from non-compliance with operating instructions, improper use, abnormal ambient
conditions, overload or absence of care/maintenance
• in the case of devices that were converted or redesigned by non-authorized third parties
• in case of minor deviations from the set quality that are irrelevant to the value and usability of the
device
8. All rights or claims beyond the ones described above, especially concerning the right of compensation
for potential damages which might be caused by BINDER products shall be excluded provided that
such exclusion is not prohibited by governing law.
9. Should you send a BINDER product to us for repair or any other reasons, we shall only accept the
BINDER product upon presentation of a so-called authorization number that has previously been
issued to you. We shall issue the authorization number after receiving your complaint in writing or via
telephone prior to your sending (back) the BINDER product to us. The authorization number will be
issued following the receipt of the information mentioned below:

AB 01 04/2006 page 9/30

• BINDER product type and serial number

The authorization number needs to be applied to the packaging in such a way that it can be easily
recognized or be recorded clearly in the delivery documents. For security reasons we cannot accept
your delivery if it does not carry an authorization number!

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Any warranty repair maintenance or service work may only be carried out by persons or companies being
properly authorized by us. If you do not know an authorized service station, please contact us and we will
name you our service partner closest to you. Otherwise, we will carry out the necessary work ourselves.

5. Installation of the equipment

5.1 Electrical connection
The Alarm Box AB 01 has a fixed connection cable, 1800 mm in length (4) and a shockproof plug:
• Mains fuse min. 10 Amp
• Power supply 230 Volt 1N +/- 10 %, 50-60 Hz
• Power consumption <20W
• Unit fuse: Fine fuse 5x20mm 10A (M) (5)
• Protection typeIP20
• Prior to connection and start-up, check the mains voltage. Compare the values to the data specified
on the type plate of the unit (chap. 1.3).
• When connecting, please observe the regulations specified by the local electricity supply company
and as well as the VDE directives (for Germany)
• Pollution degree (acc. to IEC 1010-1): 2
• Over-voltage category (acc. to IEC 1010-1): II

AB 01 04/2006 page 13/30

CAUTION
Danger of incorrect mains voltage.
Damage of the equipment.
¾ Check the mains voltage before connection and start-up.
¾ Compare the mains voltage to the data indicated on the type plate.

We recommend taking the electric power from a central alarm facility (as far as existing) with a backed-up
power feeding 230V AC (e.g. battery buffer for PCs). Only then the alarm transmission during a power
failure is guaranteed.
The power consumption of the unit is less than 20 W. Additionally for alarming during a power failure, it
is necessary that the computer on which APT-COM® 2.0 or the Watch Tool software is running is also
connected to a backed-up power feeding (e.g. battery buffer for PCs).

5.2 Connection to the communication software APT-COM® 2.0

The communication software APT-COM (version 2.0 or higher) generates the alarm message. The alarm
message is transmitted to the Alarm Box AB 01 via their RS422-interface.
The output side of the Alarm Box AB 01 is equipped with a switching contact which is switched in case of
an alarm event. This switching procedure can be used for reporting facilities or central alarm facilities as
the required input signal.
The telephone dialling unit TWG 01 from BINDER can be connected to the Alarm Box for remote
alarming via telephone line.
Also a signal buzzer or an alarm flasher can be switched directly by via this reporting contact.

6.3 Settings in APT-COM® 3 DataControlSystem

6.3.1 Connection of the Alarm Box AB 01 when operating APT-COM® 3 and the Watch
Tool on the same computer
Connecting the Alarm Box to APT-COM® 3
If APT-COM 3 and the Watch Tool are operated on a common computer, the Alarm Box AB 01 will be
connected to this computer. Then the Alarm Box AB 01 must be configured like one of the connected
temperature chambers in the configuration menu “Chamber“ of APT-COM 3. The Alarm Box is managed
and directly controlled by APT-COM 3.

AB 01 04/2006 page 17/30

Activating the Alarm Box in the Watch Tool
If the connection between the Watch Tool and APT-COM 3 has been established and both programs
have been called up (see APT-COM 3 operating manual), the Alarm Box AB 01 can be activated in the
Watch Tool configuration menu “Options”. The setting “APT-COM 3 PC (one PC)“ must have been
selected in the Watch Tool.
First the submenu “Config Binder Alarmbox (AB01)“ must be activated by switching on “Enable
Alarmbox“. Prior to this the program has no information about connection of the Alarm Box.

A few menu points can not be addressed even following activation of the submenu, e.g., „COM Port“ and
„Address“. This is because COM port and address are managed by APT-COM 3. Also the „Read test
check for the connection to the Alarm Box AB 01can not be used because the COM connection is
continually monitored by APT-COM 3.

6.3.2 Connection of the Alarm Box AB 01 when operating APT-COM® 3 and the Watch
Tool on different computers
Connecting the Alarm Box to the monitoring computer
The Alarm Box AB 01 is connected to the monitoring computer on which the monitoring software Watch
Tool is running. The Alarm Box can be placed in a distance of up to 50 m from the monitoring computer.

Activation and connection of the Alarm Box in the Watch Tool

If the connection between the Watch Tool and APT-COM 3 has been established and both programs
have been called up (see APT-COM 3 operating manual), the Alarm Box AB 01 can be activated and
managed in the Watch Tool configuration menu “Options”. The setting “Watch PC (two PCs)“ must have
been selected in the Watch Tool.
At first the submenu “Config Binder Alarmbox (AB01)“
must be activated by switching on “Enable Alarmbox“.
Prior to this, the program has no information about the
Alarm Box connection.

Under “COM Port” select the COM port to which the Alarm Box is connected, under “Address” enter 30,
the default Alarm Box address:

AB 01 04/2006 page 18/30

The button “Read Test” serves to check the connection between the Alarm Box and the Watch Tool.

If the signs “COM CRC Error” and “Time out“ remain green, the connection to the Alarm Box is OK and
functional. Under “Software version“ the answer-back code of the Alarm Box controller is displayed.

If one of the signs “COM CRC Error“ or “Time out“ or both of them light up red, the Alarm Box AB 01 is
not or not correctly connected or for another reason communication is not possible.
Only if this test has been successfully passed, the submenu “Alarmbox manual switch“ (switching on and
off the Alarm Box AB 01 for test purposes) is enabled (chap. 6.3.3).

6.3.3 Testing the Alarm Box AB 01: Function “Alarmbox manual switch”
This function serves to switch on and off the Alarm Box AB 01 for test purpose.

Hitting buttons “Switch On/Off” allows manually switching on and off the alarm pilot lamp of the Alarm
Box AB 01.

The state of the sign “Alarm pilot lamp“ corresponds to the state of the Alarm Box AB 01
alarm pilot lamp. This allows to control the switching state of the relay even if the Alarm Box
is not directly visible.

• Sign “Alarm pilot lamp“ red: alarm pilot lamp of the Alarm Box on.
• Sign “Alarm pilot lamp“ green: alarm pilot lamp of the Alarm Box off.
With setting “2 PCs“ the submenu “Alarmbox manual switch“ is enabled only if “Read test“ has
indicated that the connection to the Alarm Box AB 01 is functional (signs “COM CRC Error“ and “Time
out“ remaining green).

6.3.4 Checking the connection to the Alarm Box AB 01

On condition the options to access the Alarm Box AB 01 have been enabled with “Enable Alarmbox“ in
the „Options“ menu, Watch Tool sends a message every 60 sec. to the Alarm Box AB 01 in order to
check the connection. The result is indicated by the sign “Alarmbox status“:

AB 01 04/2006 page 19/30

Green sign: connection OK, Alarm Box functional:

Red sign: no connection, Alarm Box not functional:

Test: Following unplugging the Alarm Box the sign turns red after rundown of max. 2 min (max. 60 sec
plus a possible delay time due to reading access of the Watch Tools to the measuring data).
The interval for checking the Alarm Box is fix.
In case of the very first program start, following activating the option “Enable Alarmbox“ he indication is
green. After max. 2 minutes the real connection state to the Alarm Box AB 01 is displayed.
When disabling “Enable Alarmbox“ the indication “Alarmbox status“ disappears.

6.3.5 Setting the tolerance limits in the APT-COM® 3 measurement window

After measurement start the measurement window for the according measurement opens up.
The tolerance limit for the alarm can here be set individually for each parameter of the corresponding
measurement.

7. Alarm message
The alarm function of APT-COM is activated only if the supervised parameter previously has been within
the tolerance limits for at least one data sampling.

Any leaving of the tolerance bandwidth of one parameter of one of the supervised BINDER temperature
chambers leads to switching of the alarm output (chap. 3.2) to transmit the alarm message to the
telephone dialling device TWG 01 from BINDER or to another alarm facility of the customer.

The red alarm pilot lamp (3) indicates the alarm state. A buzzer sounds simultaneously which
can be muted with switch (2).

In APT-COM® 2.01 the alarm state is also shown on window “Check“ by red coloring of the
wide bar down on window “Check“.

In APT-COM® 3 the alarm state is indicated together with the further alarm specifications in
the Watch Tool window, as described below (chap. 7.3).

AB 01 04/2006 page 20/30

7.1 Buzzer
The alarm buzzer of the Alarm Box AB 01 can be activated or muted by switch (2) (0 = off).

7.2 Alarm course in APT-COM® 2.01

The latest measured value in window “Table“ is checked against the set tolerance
bandwidth, and any deviation is marked as LOW or HIGH. The “Check“ window
takes over the latest measured values with a frequency of actualization that
equals the longest registration interval of all of the temperature chambers from
which actually measured values are read out and stored. Directly following each
actualization of the “Check” window, the values are compared to the tolerance
bandwidth data individually set for each chamber. In case of leaving a tolerance
bandwidth, the alarm rectangle in the corresponding chamber window is colored
red. Now the set „Alarm delay“ time begins to run off. After run-off the wide bar
down on window “Check“ will be colored red as well. Now the moment has come
in which the remote alarm (collective alarm) is transmitted via the Alarm Box.

The red alarm pilot lamp (3) at the Alarm Box AB 01 indicates the alarm state, and the buzzer sounds.
The zero-voltage relay alarm output (chap. 3.2) is switched. The buzzer can be muted with switch (2).
The alarm state of the Alarm Box is finished automatically during the next update of window “Check” if
there is no parameter running outside its tolerance bandwidth any more.
The red alarm rectangle inside the supervising window of the corresponding chamber must be reset by
hand via double click (chap. 8.1). Thus the message that an error has occurred is conserved, even if the
chamber has meanwhile been able to regulate its values inside the tolerance bandwidth.

7.3 Alarm course in the Watch Tool (APT-COM® 3)

An alarm is indicated by the following signs located in the lower part of the Watch Tool window:

Figure 6: Indications of measurement alarm

The red collective alarm sign „Alarm“ indicates that at least at one of the chambers an error has
occurred.
In addition two yellow signs provide detailed information in addition to the collective red alarm sign
• The sign “Com alarm“ lighting up indicates that during the monitoring interval no new data have
been read.
• The sign “Limit alarm“ lighting up indicates that limit overrun or underrun at least at one of the
chambers has occurred.

For limit alarm detailed information is given in the Watch Tool window “Overview. The round pointer
displays indicate (in percent) whether the limits are respected by the monitored parameters. They
show that the last values read from the database are located inside the limit range set at APT-COM
3. A red or orange pointer color indicated that the limit for the corresponding parameter , has been
exceeded.
Limit Alarm is triggered beginning with a deviation of more than 100% from the set limit (red pointer
color), i.e. the yellow sign for limit alarm and the red collective alarm sign light up, and the Alarm Box
AB 01 responds.

AB 01 04/2006 page 21/30

Red: Deviation of the actual value from the set-point value is more than
100% of the set limit for this parameter in this measurement: limit overrun or
underrun. In this case, following rundown of the alarm delay time Limit
Alarm is triggered
Orange: Deviation of the actual value from the set-point value between
75% and 100% of the set limit for this parameter in this measurement.
Green: Deviation of the actual value from the set-point value up to 75% of
the set limit for this parameter in this measurement.

In case of an alarm, the Alarm Box AB 01 responds (on condition that it has been activated and correctly
connected), and an e-mail message is sent to the address indicated in the “Options“ menu (see for
details the APT-COM 3 operating manual, chap. 9).

8. Manual alarm reset

The alarm reset can must be manually carried out in APT-COM 2.0 or, when using APT-COM 3, in the
Watch Tool.

The alarm can be reset on condition that the alarm cause is no more persistent.

Note for users who have connected the telephone dialing device TWG 01 from BINDER:

The end of the alarm state at the APT-COM software does not influence telephone dialling
unit TWG 01. The alarm has to be reset there additionally by hand by pressing the reset key
. .

8.1 Alarm reset in APT-COM® 2.01

The alarm reset can only be carried out from APT-COM 2.0 window “Check“:
Hereto all red alarm rectangles have to be confirmed individually by a left click. Hereunto a automatic
alarm reset of the collective alarm (the red coloring of the wide bar down on window “Check“
automatically disappears) is performed – But only if all temperature chambers have been returned inside
their limits in the meantime. Otherwise all confirmed alarm rectangles get red again and the alarm state
remains.
8.2 Alarm reset in APT-COM® 3
To reset the alarm indications press button “Alarm reset“ twice:

The first pressing resets the cause indication signs “Com alarm“
or “Limit alarm“. c
The second pressing resets the red collective alarm sign.
d
A condition for alarm reset is that the alarm cause is no more persistent. Otherwise the alarm state is
conserved.
