l Cogul ist eines der ganz groGen
spanischen Bouldergebiete. In
I zahlreichen Sektoren finden sich
einige hundert Probleme jeglicher
' Art und Schwierigkeit. Die beste Jah-
reszeit fur ambitioniertes Bouldern
sind hier zweifellos die Winter-
monate, die in der Regel sudseitig
exponierten Sektoren, meist ohne
nennenswerten Bewuchs, bieten im
Sommer ein wahres Backofenklima.
Neben den Boulderblocken sind
direkt im Gebiet auch urzeitliche
Hohlenmalereien zu bestaunen.
Einige Kilometer entfernt und
ebenfalls am Riu Set liegt das
Bouldergebiet Cervid, das zusdtz-
liche Abwechslung bietet und in
der ndheren Umgebung finden sich
auRerdem zahlreiche weitere Boul-
dermoglichkeiten. Bei der Anreise
uber Granadella Richtung Albages
sind mir jedenfalls immer wieder BI6-
cke mit Chalkspuren aufgefallen.

l Cogul is one of the real big
bouldering areas in Spain. In
numerous sectors there are some
hundred boulder problems of any
kind of character and difficulty to be
found. The best time for pulling hard
problems are without doubt the win-
ter months, the usually south facing
sectors mostly without a vegetation
worth mentioning are extremely hot
in summer. Besides the boulders you
can visit prehistoric cave paintings
directly in the area.
Some kilometres further and
also along the Riu Set is lying the
bouldering area Cervia which can
be a welcome alternative and in the
proximity there are numerous other
bouldering possibilities to be found.
When I got there via Granadella
towards Albages I have seen numer-
ous boulders with chalk marks along
the road.

varios cientos de problemas de todo
tipo y dificultades. La mejor epoca
para „pegar" a los bloques duros
sin duda alguna es en los meses de
invierno. Lo normal es la orientacion
sur de los sectores, la mayor parte sin
vegetacion, destacando que lo peor
es el extremado calor en verano.
Cerca de los bloques, directamente
en la zona, se pueden visitor pinturas
rupestres.

nische Fontainebleau. Deshalb
war es nicht verwunderlich, als mir
gleich am ersten Abend meines
Aufenthalts franzosische Freunde aus
Fontainebleau uber den Weg liefen,
die bereits zum wiederholten Male
das athletische Sandsteingebiet
unsicher machten. Im Gegensatz zu
Fontainebleau bietet der rotliche
Sandstein zahllose Dacher und
Uberhdnge, so dass das Gebiet auch
fur eingefleischte Bleausarden etwas
ganz Besonderes ist. In der spani-
schen Boulderszene scheint es auch
nahezu kein anderes Gebiet von
Bedeutung mehr zu geben, an jedem
Wochenende und zu den Feiertagen
fallen hier jedenfalls wahre Karawa-
nen von Boulderliebhabern ein, die

Kultstatte an und in der Tat kann das
Gebiet als Kultstatte fur Boulderer
aus aller Herren Lander durchgehen.
Das Gebiet ist nicht gewaltig grol3,
doch die Qualitat der Probleme
wiegt dies nahezu auf und einige
NeuerschlieRungen der letzten Zeit
haben die Schwierigkeitsskala auch
hier bis in die Bereiche von Fb 8b+
nach oben verschoben. Der uber-
wiegende Anteil der Probleme ist
jedoch gemdGigter Natur und liegt
im Bereich Fb 5 und 6. Vom Haupt-
gebiet Richtung Ortschaft Zarzalejo
Estacion befindet sich ein weiterer
Hugel mit einigen erschlossenen
Boulderproblemen.

T his small but good granite area
is situated only some kilometres
away from El Escorial on the other
side of the mountain. The boulders
which are lying on the stony top
of a hill are pretty much redolent
of a heathen cult site and indeed
the area can pass as a cult site for
boulderers from all over the world.
The area is not huge, but the qual-
ity of the problems is superb. With
some problems opened recently the
difficulty range was pushed up to Fb
8b+, but the main part of the prob-
lems is moderate in the range Fb 5
and 6. From the main area towards
Zarzalejo Estacion there is another
hill with some developed problems.

Anfahrt

rechts Richtung Peralejo und Zarza-
lejo geht (M 533). Dieser StraBe
durch Peralejo bis Zarzalejo Estacion
folgen. 1,3 km nach Ortseingang
zweigt links eine StraGe (Calle del
Puente) in ein Industriegebiet ab
(vor Rechtskurve, linker Hand Sen-
demast). Uber die tiefer gelegte
Eisenbahnstrecke, dann links auf
einen Feldweg und an der nachsten
Verzweigung rechtshaltend. Parken
900 Meter nach der Verzweigung
bei einer Einzdunung (Mauer am
Eingang) kurz nach einer Hochspan-
nungsleitung.
Zugang
Entlang der Einzaunung, dann
linkshaltend zwischen den Hugeln.
Kurz darauf rechts auf einem
Trampelpfad zwischen den Hugeln
bergauf, oben dann links zu den
sichtbaren Blocken.

Getting there
On the AP 6 take the exit 47 „EI
Escorial". Take the M 600 in south-
ern direction, pass El Escorial and
continue to a roundabout where
a road on the right leads towards
Peralejo and Zarzalejo (M 533).
Follow this road traversing Peralejo
to Zarzalejo Estacion. 1,3 km after
the village entrance a road turns
off to the left (Calle del Puente) into
an industrial area (before a right
curve, transmitter mast on the left
hand side). Cross over the low lying
railway, then turn to the left on a dirt
road. At the next fork in the path
keep to the right. Park your vehicle
900 m after the fork at a enclosure
(wall at the entrance) just a bit after
a high voltage line.
Access
Walk along the enclosure, then keep
left between the hills. A bit further
turn to the right on a rough trail
which leads uphill between the hills.
Almost on the top take a path to the

una rotonda donde una carretera
a la derecha te conducird hacia
Peralejo y Zarzalejo (M 533).
Prosigue por esta carretera
atravesando Peralejo y Zarzalejo
Estacion. 1,3 km despues de la
entrada al pueblo un camino sale
a la izquierda (Calle del Puente)
en una zona industrial (despues de
una curva a la derecha). Cruza por
encima de la via del tren y gira a la
izquierda por un camino de tierra.
En el siguiente desvio en el camino
mantente a la derecha. Aparca tu
vehiculo unos 900 m despues de la
desviacion en un cercado (pared a
la entrada) justo un poco antes de
una linea de alta tension.
Acceso
Camina a lo largo del cercado i

Unterkunft
Folgt man der StraGe von Las Cru-
ceras weiter, so gelangt man zum
„Camping Las Cruceras" rechts der
StraGe gegenuber eines groGen
Parkplatzes (ausgeschildert). In Las
Cruceras gibt es weitere Ubernach-
tungsmoglichkeiten, Hotels befinden
sich in El Tiemblo und El Barraco.
Ein weiferer Campingplatz .Cam-
ping Pantano del Burguillo" befindet
sich an der AV 902 (von der N 403
Richtung Navaluenga) noch vor
Calas del Burguillo.

Getting there and access
Coming on the N 403 from San
Martin de Valdeiglesias take the exit
Reserva Natural Valle Iruelas just a
bit after El Tiemblo. Shortly after
the exit cross over a dam, then turn
to the right towards Las Cruceras.
Some sectors are lying down on the
shore along the road still before las
Cruceras.
For the sectors Beach, Hulk, Arrastrao
and Linea de Fuga park your vehicle
just after a cattle gate on the right
or left side of the road at the Hostal
Cruceras. For the access to the sec-
tors have a look to the map.
For the sector El Deseado continue on
the road. The boulder is lying just a
bit after a kind of park and a well
on the left side of the road. From
here you can also reach the sector
Familia Iskariote.
Where to stay
If you continue on the road from
Las Cruceras you will come to the
„Camping Las Cruceras" on the
right side of the road opposite of a
big parking (signs). In Las Cruceras
you will find more overnight accom-
modation, hotels can be found in El
Tiemblo and El Barraco.
Another camping „Camping Pan-
tano del Burguillo" is lying on the
AV 902 (from the N 403 towards
Navaluenga) still before Calas del
Burguillo.

Para el sector El Deseado continue la
carretera. El boulder se encuentra
justo un poco despues en una especie
de parque en la parte izquierda de
la carretera. Desde aqui puedes
acceder tambien al sector Familia
Iskariote.

Offensichtlich haben die beiden dies
als Wink des Schicksals empfunden
und die allgegenwdrtigen Blo'cke
etwas ndher in Augenschein genom-
men. Und siehe da, das Gestein
war hier von zahlreichen Patatas,
eingebackenen Kieseln, geradezu
durchsetzt. Ideale Voraussefzungen,
urn an dem sonst eher griffarmen
Gestein hervorragend bouldern zu
konnen. Damit nahm die Geschichte
des Gebiets ihren Lauf und mit dem
Ins-Leben-Rufen DES spanischen
Boulderevents Navalameca haben
Alfonso und Rodrigo ein Gebiet von
Welfklasseformat geschaff en.
Bei dem oben erwahnten Bejar/
Salamanca befindet sich iibrigens
eine weitere gigantisch groGe spa-
nische Boulderregion, doch gemaR
ubereinstimmender Auskunft meiner
spanischen Freunde ist dort das
Gestein extremst scharfkantig und
nicht wirklich luxurios zu bebouldern,
so dass zumindest in dieser Ausgabe
auf eine Beschreibung der dortigen
