Meine zweite Sonate beispielsweise ist cin Konzertstiick, sie ist nicht flirs hausliche Musizieren, gedacht. Es gibt aber Sticke, die man zu Hause spielen (oder héren) kann, selbst wenn sie eine verfeinerte Pedal- behandlung und eine raffinierte Klanggebung voraussetzen. Dies sind gewissermaSen Haustiere, z. B. Katzen, wahrend man die Werke mit philosophischem Konzept mit Tigern, vergleichen kann, die auch zur Gattung der Katzen gehdren, aber nicht mehr als Haustiere zu halten sind. Im Jahr 2000 habe ich angefangen kleine Stiicke in der Art von Bagatellen zu schreiben... Bagatellen sind kostbar, weil sie dberhaupt nicht ideologisch befrachtet sind und der schépferische Akt immer blitzschnell passiert... Wenn du das Stiick auf dem Klavier wiedergeben kannst, ist es schon fertig, auch wenn es noch nicht aufgeschricben ist. Sobald dann die Musik in Noten notiert ist, entfernst du dich schon von ihr ~ der Text beginnt selbstindig 2u existieren. ‘Meine mikrodynamischen und agogischen Bezeichnungen sind genauso ein Text wie die Noten, ihre Dauer und Hohe... Fir mich sind diese Bezeichnungen kein schmOk kendes Beiwerk, sondern genauso wichtig wie Inter valle... Dies auszufiihren ist zweifellos nicht einfach. Doch um ein begnadetes Resultat zu erreichen, lohnt sich sicherlich die Mahe... Mit diesen Dynamtk- und Agogik Bezeichnungen komponiert der Komponist. Ohne sie warde ihm sein Text nicht vollwertig vorkommen. Es ist etwas anderes, wenn diese Nuancen erst nach Schaffung des Notentextes eingetragen werden, als wenn sie gleich- zeitig mit ihm notiert werden und so zu einer ebenso inhaltsreichen Komponente werden wie alle anderen musikalischen Parameter. Interpreten achten auf solche Dinge nur selten, weil sie sie gewohnheitsmafig als zw. rangig betrachten. Dabei bestimmt ihre Ausfihrung die Finmaligkeit des Textes." Far dieses Heft hat Silvestrov erstmals aus der Vielzahl seiner ,Bagatellen" fiinf Zyklen zusammengestellt, die Opuszaien 1 bis $ vergeben und die Stiicke auch selbst auf CD (ECM) eingespielt. Preface ... contemporary piano music no longer has a home of its own... My second Sonata, for example, is a concert piece, and is not designed to be played in a domestic context. But there are pieces which one can play (or listen to) at home, even if they require a subtle use of the pedal and sophisticated timbres. These are as it were domestic animals such as cats, whereas the works based ona philosophical idea can be compared to tigers, which are also cats, though it is impossible to keep them as domestic animals. In 2000 | started to compose small pieces in the style of bagatelles... Bagatelles are little jewels, because they are not encumbered with any kind of ideological baggage and the creative act always occurs in a flash... As soon as you can play the piece on the piano, itis finished, even, if it has not yct bcen written down. As soon as the music exists in notated form you already begin to move away from it the text begins to take on a life of its own... ‘My micro-dynamic and agogic marks are just as much an integral part of the text as the notes and their durations and pitches... For me these marks are not ornamental accretions, but just as important as the intervals.. Executing them is certainly not easy. Yet in order to arrive at an outstanding result it is certainly worth going to a certain amount trouble... The composer composes with these dynamic and agogic marks. Without them he would consider his text to be incomplete. Adding these nuances after writing down a musical text is not the same as writing them down simultaneously so that they are a meaningful component like all the other musical parameters. Performers seldom pay attention to such things, since they usually consider them to be of secondary importance.
