GII']ERAL INFORMATION S
The adjustments of bearings ahd sfides are accurately rrfactory set"
throughout to a mini-mum of , respectively, cl-earance and endplay
required to assure close tolerances on size and concentricity to
be held and exceptionally exact precision vvork to be prod.uced on
any turning or threading job.

ft is advisable not to run the l-athe, like it is practice with an

autonobile or other technical equiproent, d u r ing the first days of
use at the highest spindle speeds, and make sure that the effects o1'
frictional heat rvhich nnay usually occur in bearings, when starting
a new lathe the first ti-me, will be kept vui-thin ad.missible fimlts.

Lubrication is a matter of utmost importance and is closely

connected to bearing clearance. fnsufficient lubrication will not
vnr n
r rl , yr r e s r r s o f r i nti on - hrtt i e in fnnt. =^tnetimeS the Cause Of ch.attel .
ft is therefore necessary that all- bearings are lubricated ca:efully
with quality lubricants weff suited for the purpose determj-ned..
Unsuitabl-e lubricants are very often the cause for troubles ancl
damages incurring consiCerable cosi,s, The use of high gradc qual-ty
lubricating oils and grease i,vil] pay ltself.
If adjustments wil-l become necessary after the lathe has been
installed, since distori;ion may have been incurred. in shipneni, or
due to careless handling, or after the lathe has been opcrated- for:
several rnonths, be careful- to proceed any adjustment in a proper
manner. It is good rule not to have too much pressure on the
bearings and tc make adjustmen+,s always by the rnethod of -nier.-
rnittent setting.
If it is required to take a unit apart, use the wrench or screir;r
driver iiiat f iis , and keep -uiie par'i s 'uogeti:er: in a suitabhe bov,.
Tlhen assembli-ng and adjusting, have the parts clean, and be ca.reful
to set up the screvrs and bol"ts tight enough, but not too tight.

5.2 - MAIN SPINDLE ADJUSTME}TT

ii{hen adjusting the tvro spind}e bearings, both of them should first
be slackened off, after which the front bearing shoufd be aC.jus'ced
fol]owed by the rear bearing.
Both the main spindle bearings, when ad.justed correctlys frdJ-s in
running the lathe in conti-nuous service at high speeds, becone well
handwarm. The adrnissi-ble maximum heating by friction shoul-ci not
exceed- a temperature of !O degrees Celsius (equal to 120" Fahrenhei--i:
o r { O " R 6 a r . u a u r ). If this condition will not be attained., the main
splndle bearings should be properly re-adjusted.

5.21 - A!flsrl4nNl_qq qRo{ .s I

The front spindle bearing consists of two pre-loaded iiigh Precision
Tapered RofIer Bearings, which are arranged. opposite to anoth:r and
spaced by a shim ring for adjusting the cups, and held between the
spindle front beari-ng oap and lock nuts which serves to force the
eones together.
