GUAN SHANG began to supply and manufacture as building hardware and building material in 1974 and was
established as GSG Concrete Industries M Sdn. Bhd. was formed in 1993 to manufacture a range of concrete
products. We are starting rebranding in 2019 and planning to be develop more our business to nationwide in
2020.

The products include Spun pipes, box culverts, U-Shape drain, L-shape, piles, and others Precast Concrete
Products.

GSG Concrete Industries M Sdn. Bhd. started on Jalan Muar Tangkak Johor. We enjoyed a fair share of the
market and about 10 years later, extended our activities to Rawang Sungai Mati Muar Johor.

Evaluating the constantly changing situations in the infrastructure and construction industries, we are adopting
flexible and responsive ways to improve everyday activities. In 2010, we became ISO 9001:2008 certified and in
2018 we were upgraded to ISO 9001:2015 certified.

HANDLING METHODS

Handling
The lifting holes (weep holes) provides in the U Drain units double up for ease of handling. Whereas, it is recom-
mended that a spreader beam to be used with steel pins and lifting cables when slinging the units to avoid
cracking at junction of side wall and base slab.

Stacking
All units should be stacked uniformly on leveled ground to avoid any damages. Lids should be supported with
timber bearers at both end.

Laying
U Drain units should be laid on the prepared bedding to ensure uniform support force under the full width and
length of the units.

Jointing
GSG U Drain units are supplied with plain butt joints in standard length. Cement sand mortar is normally used to fill
the gap between U Drain units.
DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

1. The structural design of Precast R.C. U Drain is in accordance with BS 8110: 1997.
2. U Drain is made strength concrete with a 28 days characteristic strength of 30 N/mm2 to 45 N/mm2.
3. Concrete cover to reinforcement for:
• Standard Size U Drains = 25mm • Super Size U Drains = 30mm
4. U-Drain is designed for the standard loading conditions as shown below:

Soil parameter used:

1) Angle of internal friction 30°

3) Bulk density of compacted backfill 19kN/m3

4) Free draining granular backfill at back of wall

5. Weep holes are provided for drainage of the retained soil when U Drain is combined with the butt jointed units
to prevent the buildup of hydrostatic pressure.
6. Our standard design is catered for a maximum height of 150mm in-situ capping.

R.C. U Drains are manufactured under stringent quality control and available in both Standard Size
and Super-Size category. The standard size R.C. U Drains are available in the range of nominal width
between 300mm to 1800mm. Wheras, for super-size R.C. U Drains are in the range of nominal width
between 2100mm and 3600mm and above. Besides that, GSG R.C. U Drains also available in both WITH
and WITHOUT Dry Weather Flow (DWF) channels which similar to Box Culvert.

for handling purpose. Whereas, it is recommended that a spreader beam to be used with steel pins and lifting
cables when slinging the inverts to avoid cracking at junction of side wall and base joint.

Stacking
All inverts should be stacked uniformly on leveled ground to avoid any damages. Lids should be supported with
timber bearers at both end.

Laying
Box Culverts should be laid on the prepared bedding to ensure uniform support force under the full width and
length of the culverts.

Jointing
GSG box culverts are supplied with plain butt joints. Cement sand mortar is normally used to fill the gap between
box culverts.

Backfilling
Backfilling around culvert units should be done after the lid of the culvert has been installed and it should be
carried out in even layers on both sides simultaneously with selected free draining backfill material.
DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

1. The structural design of Precast R.C. box culvert is in accordance with MS 1293: Part 1: 1992.
2. Design loading requirements for GSG box culvert are in accordance with BS 5400: Part 2: 1978.
3. box culverts are made from high strength concrete with a 28 days characteristic strength of 35-45 N/mm2.
4. Concrete cover to reinforcement for:
• Standard Size Box Culverts = 25mm • Super-Size Box Culverts = 30mm

6. Standard Size Box Culverts also comply with proof load test of 112.5kN over an area of 320mm x 320mm
placed at any position on the culvert lid in accordance with MS 1293: Part 1.
7. Hydrostatic pressure is relieved by provision of the weep holes along the centerline of the invert wall.
8. box culverts are designed to withstand a standard 2m (max.) of superimposed backfill depth and 45 units of
HB vehicle live load.
9. All R.C. Box Culverts are batched for sampling and tested strictly according to MS 1293: Part 1: 1992 to
ensure the its quality.

PRECAST CONCRETE SPUN PIPE CULVERT STRENGTH / DESIGN SPECIFICATION

All precast concrete spun pipe culverts are manufactured to withstand the respective crushing load in its
category according to the Malaysian Standard 881: 1991 and tabulated the result in this brochure. Besides that,
all concrete pipes are batched for sampling and tested strictly according to MS 881: Part 3: 1991 to ensure
the consistency of quality.

Reinforced Concrete Piles are manufactured under factory controlled condition that are certified
to MS ISO 9001:2015 by Sirim QAS International Sdn. Bhd. to the highest quality standards.
R.C. piles are manufactured in rigid and dimensionally accurate moulds to facilitate the accurate
fixing of steel wires and steel reinforcement cages and joint plates. Our R.C. piles are produced by
good Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), which can perform much better in workability, durability and
long term strength.

Thus, R.C. piles is the preferred choice for the infrastructure and construction industry.

DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

R.C. piles are precast reinforced concrete pile designed and produced conforming to MS 1314
Malaysia SIRIM standard. Durable and simple to install, GCP piles comes in many sizes ranging from
125mm x 125mm to 400mm x 400mm measurements. They are suitable for building construction work
& all civil engineering projects

DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS

1. The structural design of GSG Precast R.C. L-Shape unit is in accordance with BS 8110 and with the minimum
concrete cover to reinforcement of 25 to 30mm.
2. All GSG L-Shape unit is made from high strength concrete with a 28 days characteristic strength of 30-45
N/mm2.
3. Soil parameter used:

• Angle of internal friction 30°

• Bulk density of compacted backfill 19kN/m3

• Granular type soil backfill at back of wall

4.Weep holes are provided for drainage of the retained soil to prevent the buildup of hydrostatic pressures.
5.Our standard design is catered for a maximum height of 150mm in-situ capping.
6.For other loading conditions and sizes requirement, kindly provide the information and contact our
Marketing Department for a special design.

APPLICATION

R.C. L-Shape Drain may be used as:

a. Open Drain
b. Retaining Wall
c. Temporary or Permanent Wall

HANDLING METHODS

Handling
Lifting holes (weep holes) are provided for every R.C. L-shape drain wall and lifting hooks are provided at the
base of L-shape drain for handling purpose. Whereas, it is recommended that a spreader beam to be used with
steel pins and lifting cables when slinging the units to avoid cracking at junction of side wall and base joint.

Stacking
All units should be stacked uniformly on leveled ground to avoid any damages.

Laying
L-Shape units should be laid on the prepared bedding to ensure uniform support force under the full width and
length of the units.

Jointing
L-Shape units are supplied with plain butt joints in standard length. Cement sand mortar is normally used
to fill the gap between L-Shape units.
