Franz Anton Leopold Joseph Keyper was
born c.1756 and was of Dutch origin. He
worked as principal double bass player in
the Royal Chapel Orchestra in Copen-
hagen, where he died on 7 June 1815. His
son was the bassoonist Franz Jacob
August Keyper (1792-1859).
This first edition of the Romance and
Rondo is based on the autograph MS in
the Royal Danish State Library; most of
the dynamic marking and phrasing is
editorial. The orchestral accompaniments
are for strings, 2 flutes and 2 horns. (The
work may be also performed with strings
alone and whenever possible a continuo
harpsichord should be added).
The Editor is grateful to Mr James Brown

herausgebers
Der aus Holland stammende Franz Anton
Leopold Joseph Keyper wurde ungefàhr
1756 geboren. Er war erster Kontra-
bassist im Orchester der kóniglichen
Kapelle zu Kopenhagen und starb in
Kopenhagen am 7 Junì 1815. Sein Sohn
war der Fagottist Franz Jacob August
Keyper (1792-1859).
Diese Erstausgabe der Romanze und
Rondo betitelten Komposition beruht auf
dem Originalmanuskript, das sich in der
kònigÌichen dànischen Staatsbibliothek
befindet. Die Hinweise, welche die
Dynamik und die Phrasierung betreffen,
stammen grósstenteils vom Herausgeber.
Die Besetzung des begleitenden Orches-
ters besteht aus Streichern, 2 Flòten und
2 Hórnern. (Das Werk kann auch nur mit
Streichern besetzt aufgefùhrt werden,
doch sollte, wenn irgend mòglich, ein
Cembalo fùr die Mitwirkung bei der
Continuostimme hinzu gezogen werden).
Der Herausgeber móchte hiermit N{r
James Brown, der wesentlich dazu
beigetragen hat das Werk ausfindig zu
machen, seinen Dank aussprechen, wie
auch dem Bibliothekar der kóniglichen
dànischen Staatsbibìiothek, ohne dessen
freundliche Erlaubnis die vorìiegende
Ausgabe nicht zustande gekommen wàre.
